one more question

is your USC ID the same as your social security number?

No, it is in your acceptance packet. The large white envelope with the gamecock
and yes on it. It is on a page that says Self Service Carolina on the top

all i have on that sheet is my VIP ID and the last four digits of my USC ID

Your USC ID is in fact your SSN.

On VIP, you can either log in with your VIP ID or your SSN. I think it automatically takes you to the VIP ID, but you can click the other option to go to the ID Login.

I don’t even know my VIP number. I literally only had to use it once and that was for Language placement testing. Since then, it’s been my SSN.

I guess a lot of things will be changing. According to admissions USC ID is no longer your social security number and new students will not be using VIP. They told me they are still in the process of putting the new system in place and it will take awhile for it to be up and running

For 2011-2012 Freshman the VIP ID was not the SS number.

^VIP ID and SSN have never been the same, as far as I know.

However, when USC asks for your “university ID number”, that’s your SSN. They may be changing that with the new system.

When you log onto VIP, you have to options:
USC ID/PIN Login & First Time Users
My VIP ID/Password Login

The VIP ID is an assigned number that is completely different from the USC ID. The USC ID is your social security number. But, I guess with this new system, they’re changing that. They haven’t told current students anything about it.

So, I thought I’d post here. Apparently they’re going away from using SSN for anything. You used to have to use your SSN to sign into the Strom, but now they’re making students switch over to the VIP number.
