Opinions on Video Games...

and whats wrong with a time waster? especially if its something you enjoy doing and can be a distraction from stressful issues

“A Time Waster!” - Cry the denizens of college confidential.

Pot… Kettle…

^Thank you! You win this thread so far.

Bring them if you want and if your family is okay with it.

I might bring my Wii, since I only really play console games with other people anyway (Super Smash Bros ftw!)

I think a Wii would be a nice ice-breaker/nice if you want your room to be a hangout spot.
Be careful, though, if you have people in your room playing games, be prepared for when those people want to play games and you want to sleep. Having your dorm room be a hangout spot can be a double-edged sword…my friend had that problem a lot last year.

I thought about bringing my Wii, but I’m afraid it might make me less social, and I don’t want it stolen.

RoxSox, that’s odd. I have my friends over to play Wii pretty regularly, but I’ve never considered my room a “hangout spot” or been pressured to play when inconvenient for me. But I can see how that could happen, I guess.

“Time enjoyed is never wasted”

I just logged 30 hours replaying ff9. Honestly one of the best weeks of my summer

There’s a song by Brad Paisley “Time well wasted”. The title says it all. You’re not going to do something valuable all the time, it’s just no possible, so in your free time you might as well do what you enjoy most.

OrganicGreenTea - Good game. I spent a week replaying FFX with my girlfriend at the time a few months back, time well spent and not wasted if you ask me.

I would never consider bringing any game consoles. Better spend free time more wisely like exercising or joining an extra club.

I pretty much only play games on my PC but I think Civilization IV / BtS is the only game I’m going to bring to college. I’ll probably join some other gamers on their consoles.

I use to game 8-10 hours a day on school days back in high school and otherwise i would be out with friends. Now I do not play video games at all.

I am absolutely obsessed, which is why I can’t take any with me to college. I don’t care if I put them down for a month or a year, if I pick it up I’m hooked. I hadn’t played video games for nearly two years when I randomly stumbled into a Street Fighter tournament at the mall. Well, I completely dominated and won. I was nearly tempted to go and buy my own copy, but I didn’t :)

Had an Xbox all through college…great way to blow off steam during exams or fill in the dead hour after a morning class when everyone is either in class or still asleep. Also a fun way to start weekend nights—crack a few brews and play split screen Halo with the suitemates.

Gahh, I have the unhealthiest addiction to video games. Let’s see… I clock around 20-30 hours a week. I am SO bringing my Wii and DS to my dorm. I’m also buying a PS3 soon. The Xbox 360 stays with my brother, though. ;_; Anyway, I can’t wait to **** off my roommate by playing all night long. I hope she won’t be tempted to kill me~ :3

Seriously, video games are great for stress relief. Also, if you’re socially inept, they are an easy way of garnering attention. Personally, I need to cut down on my gaming time, though~

I logged around 10-15 hours a week on my Xbox 360/Original Xbox all through high school, and managed to get straight A’s without a problem, despite taking a large amount of AP classes. College is definitely different than high school though in regards to rigor and pace of life, so I doubt I’ll be playing much. For me, it’s more of a social thing. A lot of my friends play online in the evenings, so I hop on for an hour or two to chat and play together. With them entering college as well, we’ll likely be limited to the weekends, which is fine by me. I plan on keeping my Xbox in storage for the first 3-4 weeks anyways, that way I can settle in, explore the campus, and meet more people instead of just sitting in the dorm playing video games with my roommates.

I play about 5-7 hours a day (I play on a semi professional level) and was still able to keep up a 3.8 at top 10 school, so unless you’re REALLY addicted there shouldn’t be any problems.

thx 4 all the comments everyone!!! keep going!!

Steam sales will be the death of me :/

i wont have a tv so no video games, especially with halo reach coming, the only game i’ll play since 2008
