I'm going to be a freshman this fall, and I haven't signed up for orientation yet. There doesn't seem to be many summer orientations left(about 2 in july), so will I not be able to sign up for some of the classes I want if they fill up? Also, if I want govt credit, do I sign up for the Texas Government placement test?

Supposedly they hold places in classes open for each orientation session.

Yes, sign up for Texas test.

^ what kind of stuff is on the Texas Gov test and let’s say I get a 4 on the AP Gov what do I need on the Texas Gov to get credit

Daughter took the Gov test and I don’t remember the exact numbers, but apparently if you made a 4 (she did) she can miss LOTS of questions and still pass. It wasn’t a big deal at all. You might glance over the material once, but I wouldn’t spend a lot of time preparing.

Alright cool, another random question, but if I’m scheduled for the July 6-9 orientation, could I arrive fairly late on the 6th? Like lets say at 8 or 9?

Are you planning to stay on campus? People check in to their dorm rooms early in the day and the agenda starts shortly after that.

http://deanofstudents.utexas.edu/nss/downloads/09FreshOGuide.pdf

Ya I am, will this be a problem? If it is I can most likely get there at a regular time, it’s just that the last day of my calc class is the 6th so I’m gonna ask to take the final early

They’ll have to make a bit of a fuss to check you in rather than checking you in with everyone else.

You’ll have to ask them to see if this is hard to do or if this is something they are used to doing. (I would guess that it would not be too awful to arrive late - surely other people have done this! - but I really don’t know.)

ok, i have a question. i am, as of now, not planning on going to the orientation. how and when do i sign up for classes to take this coming fall? and when do classes normally fill up?? thanks…

You will need to go to Fall Orientation, which is August 18-19. You can register for classes then and supposedly they hold slots open for each orientation period. You may not get what you want when you want it, but you will be able to get classes.

[Office of the Dean of Students - New Student Services](http://deanofstudents.utexas.edu/nss/)

Also, on somewhere it says that if I want to take Calc, I have to take the Aleks exam. Do I sign up for this exam at orientation?

eww aleks. barf

Ahhh! Do you know how I could find the orientation confirmation page?! D:

I didn’t know we had to bring it to orientation!

Did you maybe get an email?

Nope, we didn’t get any email. You could print out this page: <a href=“Sign in with your UT EID - Stale Request”>Sign in with your UT EID - Stale Request;

Sasha, UT does it the old fashioned way and you get a letter… IN THE MAIL! (I got one)

And for all those UT experts, say we take a placement test during orientation. Will we receive the results fast enough to enroll for higher level classes because we fulfilled the prerequisites?

Right, I got something in the mail too, but it didn’t have any personal/unique information on it besides my name and address.

@tim739 - On the orientation schedule (http://deanofstudents.utexas.edu/nss/downloads/2010SummerOFreshSched.pdf) it says that test results will be available online at 3:00pm on the second day of orientation.

I don’t think so. At least now I’m trying to remember if I did. There isn’t a record of it in my emails.

I’ll probably have to call them tomorrow and find out. I hope it went through… :(

Soadquake981: Would that page be okay? When I clicked on it, the only info it had on it was:

Students admitted for the summer semester and starting classes on June 3, 2010 should attend the Summer School Orientation on May 29, 2010. Registration is required. Please refer to [Office of the Dean of Students - New Student Services](http://www.utorientation.com) to register.

Students admitted for the summer semester and starting classes on July 12, 2010 may contact New Student Services at 512-471-3304 for assistance with orientation registration.

Really? For me, that page has all my orientation reservation information.

I figured everybody had it like that. That stinks for me. It probably means the charge to my credit card didn’t go through. I never received a notification though. Tough times for my piggy bank.

But lucky for me, I’m gonna do the June 1st orientation for free - starting school in the summer makes me eligible for it! Sweet beans.

All the other orientations must be full anyways, right? I tried to see if I could register for another one just in case and there’s nothing when I click on register.

Gonna miss the whole three day thing! :S It’s not gonna seem that much fun.
