In the orientation book on pg 13 it says a student must have a satisfactory AP score in US Govt and Politics to take the TX Govt test during orientation. Since AP scores have not been released for the May AP tests, can a student take that TX Govt test later to try and receive credit? Maybe after school starts or later in the summer? My son is attending orientation the wk of June 22-25.

same thing here as for the US Govt test - it’s computer based and offered year-round per the link in your other thread.

The test itself is basically a formality that allows the University to say that it’s students have been taught Texas Government so they don’t treat it very strictly. I don’t know why they say that you must have AP scores submitted first because you really don’t. They never bother checking it so you’ll be better off pretending that you never read it. In any case, you can take the TX Gov’t Test later on and get the credit later. I’m pretty sure there’s no ‘expiration date’. Also, if your son hasn’t signed up for the test yet and would like to, there is a table in the Jester East Lobby during orientation that is open the first 2 (?) days for anyone to do some last second registrations for tests.

It’s not on the computer and it’s not offered year round, unless they changed it.

I didn’t take it at orientation since I didn’t want to wake up at 8am and drive over from the hotel to the campus to take one test, when nothing else happened that day until after noon.

It’s offered in September and October for a few weeks on select days/times. You can register online a few weeks prior and take it then and claim credit then. I took GOV 312 this past spring semester and I claimed credit for GOV 310 from that test last October, and it all worked out fine.

Hmmm. It is offered at other times of year.

Whether you pass well enough to get credit for Gov 310 depends both on your AP Gov score (to show you know US Gov) and your Texas gov test.

Does it work to take the Texas gov test before you have your AP Gov results?

Yes MidwestMom, they do allow you to take the test without AP scores in. In fact, they never really even mention it unless you bring it up yourself.

Thanks so much! You have been so helpful!
