What are my chances of getting accepted to The Ohio State University main campus as a transfer student? I’m currently a sophomore undergrad at Colorado School of Mines. I’ve seen some pretty high acceptance rates for transfers (86%?), but I know that includes people who are coming from C State and regional campuses. My credentials aren’t great as is, but to be fair, where I’m coming from (Mines) is an incredibly difficult engineering-only school. I’ve heard from a friend in our USG that my sophomore class’s average GPA hovers between 2.5-2.6. I’m very dissatisfied where I’m at currently, and a change is definitely necessary. I’m currently studying Geological Engineering but would like to enter the GIS program at OSU.
Cumulative College GPA: 2.56
Last semester GPA: 2.74 (my best semester GPA yet out of 3 completed)
High School GPA: 3.89 (Pretty sure that’s not relevant though, as I’ve completed more than 30 semester hours)
If it helps, I lived in the Columbus metro area from 2001 until college, and completed all 4 years at and graduated from an Ohio high school. My transfer application is all done except my personal statement, and I would really love to come home and go to OSU next fall.
P.S. - Would submitting additional materials help my chances? It’s been nearly 2 years since I’ve graduated high school, and have over 30 completed college semester hours, but I think they’ll accept my high school transcript and ACT if I send it in anyways…
I have heard that if you have above a 2.5/4.0 you’re pretty much going to get in especially because you’re from Ohio . I think you will be okay. I am currently trying to apply too as a transfer for Fall 2016. As for you sending any other materials, I think if your ACT scores was pretty good (especially 27 or over) send it in because it couldn’t hurt and it’s only 12 dollars. Your high transcript seems to be impressive as well so if you wanted to send that, again I don’t think it will hurt you and that’s free…well at least mine was. I hope you get in!! Let me know?
I just got accepted today @aestrd ! My stats were: HS GPA: 3.65, Northern Kentucky University GPA: 2.86, ACT score: 23, in-state from Cincinnati, and from transfer credits from University of Cincinnati from doing doing dual-enrollment my senior year of hs.
@aestrd
I had a 3.85 gpa in highschool. A 3.57 at my current 4 year college. A 4.0 at community college that i was dual enrolled in highshool. A 33 on ACT. I am out of state.
You have a good chance because you are at Colorado School of Mines, so i’m assuming that you did good in high school.
@206fall2016@deelovesyou2 Congrats guys! Considering I’m about in-between you guys stats-wise and coming from Mines, I’m feeling good about my chances. My application still says incomplete as of now, though I know it can take up to 10 days for submitted materials to register on the application status website. Congrats again guys, wish me luck!
@aestrd Thanks so much! I honestly wasn’t sure if I would even get in so i think you have a great chance since you said your stats are higher than mine. It does take a minute for them to receive everything so don’t worry.
hey @206fall2016 When did you get admitted? I am wondering when my acceptance fee statement will be sent to me because I really want to get everything started.
I’m pretty sure you’ll do fine and get in as well! I applied on the 2nd of march and just got the decision that I’m admitted on april 9th at 11:38 pm
my major is computer science and engineering btw
@aestrd I applied March 11th, all my materials were finally in March 22nd, and I checked the applicant center on April 4th @ approx. 3pm and saw that I had been admitted.
I applied on April 7th for admission. I’m only in my second semester at another Ohio university, but I don’t like it at all, and I’m eager to go to OSU. My high school GPA was a 3.4, first semester of college was a 3.4, and my ACT score was a 24. I’m terrified I won’t be accepted, even though the acceptance rate is around 86%. My materials were all mailed out the day after I applied, so they all have to be there by now, but my application status says I’m still missing 2/4 of my needed materials. I know mail doesn’t take THAT long from a university 2 hours away, and I know it takes 10 days for applications to reflect listed materials. But I’m paranoid and I check my account every single day, multiple times a day. Sigh.
@osutransferme You should definitely write a personal statement. It costs nothing to sit down and write one, and it could be a deciding factor in admission.
I applied, probably, 12 weeks ago and submitted all required documents 7 weeks ago. However, I still have not received the decision. I am a junior in Chemical Engineering at the Oregon State University with GPA 3.13, ACT: 27. I sent the Admission Committee an email to find out about the decision, and they said that it would be made soon. It was 5 weeks ago! I called them 2 weeks ago, and they gave me the same answer. I am , honestly, so exhausted after waiting for so long.
