Out of State

Hi, so I’m an out of state applicant and have a few questions. First, I just read that UT Austin does not look at GPA but class rank? Is this true? What if your school doesn’t rank? Second, because I’m out of state will I hear later than students in state? I’m already aware it is extremely difficult to be accepted out of state so I just want to know if I’ll be waiting for what is most likely a rejection forever.

Also just some comments/extra questions, I found the application to be by far the hardest I had to fill out, extremely so. A girl in my grade who also applied agreed. There are so many issues I had it’s incredible without getting into specifics. So anyway, we heard that they purposefully make a more difficult application for those applying out of state? I find this hard to be true, but is it? Then for those in state, did you find it difficult? Do you guys have a class on it in school? Just out of curiosity.

Thanks for any answers

Most receive a notification on majors and acceptances by mid February. Without a class rank, they use past students who have applied to create a pseudo rank for you. Not sure the exact methodology, but they manage some how.

I’m pretty sure that the application process is the same for everyone… Do you mean the fact that you have to make an apply Texas application? It’s kinda a pain since it’s not common app, but what can you do.

  • UT does look at GPA if your school doesn't rank. They probably still look at GPA even if your school does rank.
  • I'm not completely sure when you will hear back, but I'm OOS and I heard back on Friday.
  • The application really was not that hard, it just has an outdated and hard-to-navigate layout.
  • The application is the same for those in-state and out-of-state. Everyone uses ApplyTexas regardless of location.
  • Obviously those in-state do not have a class on "ApplyTexas". There's nothing to be taught. You simply fill out what it asks. They even have an example application that you can refer to if you don't understand a section.

The application was truly difficult and I will not have somebody condescendingly tell me it’s not. I’ve spoken to so many people about this and you are the only one to disagree.

Also, it was more of a joke about having a class on it. I mean in my college guidance classes they did do quick walk throughs of some applications, so I more so meant that.
