is it harder or easier for an out of stater to get into UGA (i have heard it is easier becuz uga is trying to become more diverse)??? i expect to apply early next fall...i live in CT and have a little above the UGA average SAt scores. however, my gpa isnt even close (its hard to compare gpa's though, becuz for instance i go to one of the best public high schools in america)...i have triple legacy so i guess that will help....im just worried my 2.7 academic and 3.1 overall will scare them off too much....

How come everyone goes to the best public school in America?

haha idk i just said that becuase its considered one of the better in the US...like its on the newsweek top 300 list...and its in CT (ct schools in general are good)

any info would be appreciated though...i need to go to uga!!!

The 2.7GPA might hurt you. That's really low to be honest. But what do I know? You could be going next year.

I hate to say this but a 2.7 is really going to hurt you. GPA and rigor of curriculum weigh 3:1 against SAT scores. Unless you have over a 1400, it's going to be tough.

yeah 2.7 is a bit too far below the 3.7 avg.... im hoping that i can pull it up before the end of the year. w/e im defintetly still applying but i need to start finding some other schools (probably similar choices...in south, public, etc)

Is university of florida harder than UGA to get into??? How about College of Charleston??

University of Florida is as hard, if not harder, to get into than UGA. College of Charleston is private and pretty expensive (and in my opinion not worth the price). Try Auburn and Tennessee. If you don't make it into UGA the first time, just go to another school for a year, get good grades, and transfer in. If you really want to be a dawg, you'll find a way. Good luck.

To answer your original question, though, I have heard that it is as easy or as hard to get into UGA as an out-of-state student as it is as an in-state student. In other words, you will have just as likely to be admitted as another applicant from GA with your same credentials. Did your grades improve over time? Sometimes schools are a little more "lenient" with applicants who improved over time.

eh they pretty much stayed flat. i was very consistent with my grades throughout my 3 years unfortunately. thanks for the advice though...i think im gonna start finding some options for schools in the West. Colorado at boulder?? University of Arizona?? The search continues....

try it because admissions at uga is strange. it is not as straight foward as tech. my stats at close to uga's standrads and i have 10 aps and alot of honors and some regs in freshman year. i hope i get in.

Am I correct in assuming that you're a junior right now? Because if you haven't applied to colleges yet, you're pretty much screwed. It doesn't seem like you've applied anywhere yet.

haha yeah im a junior.

Sat6969 ... we were told when we went to the admissions meeting at University of Florida that they admitted approx. 95% instate. And, of those admittances, it's becoming so competitive that kids with 4.0's and better are being turned down. (even with excellent SAT's and EC's). Not sure what they're looking for from OS, but I would imagine at least on par.

SAT 6969... You're absolutely right in that no two GPA's (especially high school GPA's) are created alike. Coming from a highly ranked, competitve high school will help you, and this will be indicated on your forms to UGA, I'm sure. UGA admissions officers do look beyond the numbers when making decisions about applicants, so don't be discouraged. Try to move that GPA up throughout the rest of this semester (as Junior year is arguably the most important year) and your Senior year as well. Consider taking the SAT again early in your Senior year; UGA will consider your highest scores, though they certainly will look at your other scores. It may seem like your SAT score won't increase much, but if you study hard this summer, and your score increases to where you're at the upper end of UGA's 25-75% range, then all the studying will be well worth it and your chances of acceptance have just increased considerably. Good luck with everything SAT696969, and stay positive!
