3.5 GPA
26 ACT
Varsity Academic Team, International Club, Drama Club, National Honor Roll
Taken: Honors English 10,11, Honors Chem, Honors Physics

I'm applied to:
Duke
Northwestern
Johns Hopkins
Syracuse
NYU
Boston College
William and Mary
Denison

Got into:
Ohio University
Ohio State University

The thing is, I want to go to school out of state. I have an EFC of zero so I'm not worried about the extra costs.

haha EFC of zero, you must be rich rich rich. Haha, but with those stats i'd say you have a good chance of getting into at least one of those schools. But if you don't, go Buckeyes!

i'm going to be honest don't send an app in for duke, nu, or jhu but i think u should consider some schools less than the top 20, you will have great chances at those gl!

wait, um...your school doesn't offer any more honors/AP's, or you just haven't taken them?

If they do offer them but you simply haven't taken them, then you might get into Denison, POSSIBLY W & M, POSSIBLY Boston or Syracuse. That's a very light courseload.

It's hard to tell because your ACT is so low...are you a native English speaker?

lol, my school only offers like 5 or 6 and the rest i couldn't take due to conflicts in my schedule. I'm in the top 10% of my class with a 3.5..the courses arent easy at all.

ACT was only taken once, wasn't able to take it twice, but as for the English joke, I got a 30 on that section =]

well, I hope you explained the scheduling conflicts in your applications, and also keep in mind that even people who go to rural schools with no AP's or honors classes study for the exams on their own. "They weren't offered" or "scheduling conflicts" may seem like reasonable excuses, but to a lot of top-tier colleges, they're really not.

I wasn't joking about the ACT, I was simply curious. Colleges are going to examine your ACT score closely. Do you have a way to explain what happened?

Yeah, i made a note of my coursework and so did my counselor.

I ended up getting a 30 English, 26 Math, 25 Reading, 25 Science

My problem was, I didn't use my time like I should of on the reading. I was finishing the third story when he called 5 minutes. The first time is a learning experience. I really do wish I could have taken it twice. The only reason I didn't was because the actual time I tried to take it before, I could not get a ride to where they placed me on that day.

If you want to go out of state, try Fairfield and Loyola and Fordham...you'd have a very decent chance at all three...but Denison is great if you get in there.

cc people can seem so pretentious sometimes.. 26 ACT is not terrible, and there is no reason to think someone who receives a 30 (or less) in english isn't a native speaker.

anyway, definitely reaching at jhu, nw, duke, and even bc and nyu. you have a fair chance at the others and osu is a great school, too. good luck!

I didn't think of those schools flyboy. Only thing is, I've sent out so many apps my counselor can't keep up with the ones now lol. I think i'm going to try my luck with these schools and I'm sure I can get into Denison. Out of the 10 I have applied to, I should have a real shot at half. It's a long shot and if not, OSU isn't a bad fall back.

The advice regarding 26 as mid range is right. It is not high enough for a lot of out state schools. Why not take it(ACT) a second time? --or-- The sat the first time.

Well, I went ahead and applied to Fordham. I'll send in the rest of my stuff when school resumes. What do you think my percent would be of getting in?

According to College Board they accept 50% which is alot higher than some of your choices and the average ACT score was 28. Coming from Ohio, I think yoi have a great chance and a good choice of schools...has the size of some of the other schools you selected, jesuit like BC, and in an incredible city outside of Ohio. Good Luck.

Stonehill would be a slam dunk for you but it is a small school that doesn't attract alot of kids outside of New England. The town of Easton is stifling, but less than an hour from Boston. I grew up not far from the school and it was always seen aas a safety for a lot of local kids. Your other choices are significantly better and I woudl go to Fordham or Denison before thinking about Stonehill.
