^location is a BIG deal for some people (like myself).
I like stanford but I would never apply as an undergrad be/c it’s way to far from NJ. My family doesn’t have a lot of money and Im extremely attached to them…not being able to travel back home whenever I can (plane tickets are expensive!..and i dont like flying) would be a very sad thing for me.

You forgot Penn, OP For that, my friend, I can give you no advice.

But seriously, apply to all these schools and then worry about it. Tell them you want some safeties. There is really no harm in applying, I guess. On the flip side, if you purposefully sabotage your own Ivy applications, they can’t make you go to a school you didn’t get into…

See above. Perhaps you can talk about how much you hate Catholics for your entire essay and they’ll probably reject you…Your parents would probably rather pay for Yale over a state school anyway if they were willing to pay for ND. <<I feel guilty even suggesting that…but just sayin’

Too extreme. Remember, they have the contact info for the parents, guidance counselor, principal, et cetera. That would warrant some concerned calls. It’s easy to be a lackluster candidate without doing this, like by not sending the right SAT scores.

As BillyMc said, the Ivy League is a sports division. Stanford has its’ own athletic thing going on, as do Duke and Georgetown. JHU sucks at sports, and older colleges like Rutgers and W&M weren’t invited/declined.

On the topic, consider Duke. It’s an excellent school and North Carolina is a pretty nice climate, from what I’ve heard. Vanderbilt would also be a good choice, as would UVa and Notre Dame.

im actually starting to conside duke and emory since the climate is nice there and i have family down there .
my parents were pretty shocked when i told them the ivy thing so i’ll try to bring up the whole cali thing again soon . thanks for all your help guys !!
