Parking Permits - off campus housing - night parking

DS just got his e-mail with time/date to register for a Parking Permit. This is his first year with a car. We are very confused as to which permit he wants and then back-up if they are sold out.

His apartment (The Lofts) has a shuttle which most last year seemed happy with. He plans to drive to his evening labs (7 pm start) since shuttle ends earlier in the day.

Without a permit, after 6 pm can he park near the Quad? I know campus police strictly enforce parking; question really is parking enforced only during business hours 9 am - 5 pm? Or 24 hours?

This will help to decide if he should try for Reserve Parking vs Perimeter.

Last I remember the parking zone enforcement hours were 7am-6pm (except for handicap and Faculty-in-residence zones, which are enforced 24 hours). But otherwise you are correct.

Thanks! Couldn’t easily find it on the Bama website!

Yes, enforcement hours are 7am-6pm (http://fawp.ua.edu/bamaparking/regulations/</a>).
There is a great little parking lot right in front of the foot-bridge, across Hackberry by the Riverside dorms - this is gated during the day, but at night the gate is up and anyone can park in there. This is shown in grey immediately North of Tom Bevill BE building: <a href=“Page Not Found | The University of Alabama”>Page Not Found | The University of Alabama; This might be convenient for eng’g students.
