Penn App. - Q & A!

when it says we can post a supplementary page with our resume on the paper app, how do we do that online?

send it in

ok, thanks helix

Are we supposed to ask our teachers to put our SSN on our recs.? I assume they will add my name (of course!), but other than that, they only have the rec. evaluation form (which I did not add my SSN to, because there wasn't a specified place to put it). Hmm.. any thoughts?

quick questions.

after you send in part 1 and mail in the signature form, are they going to contact you somehow that they have received it?

also, is the interview committee going to contact us, or do we have to contact them?

On the AP section, there's only room for 5 AP scores, but I've taken 7 and I've gotten the same score in all of them! What do I do?

I made a new thread about it, but I'll post it here too. On the AP Section it says to list any AP classes you are taking this year in that section. However, how are we supposed to have the scores of those classes already?

Also another question:

on the activities section... under "positions", can we list positions, awards and a description, or just what position we held in the club or activity?

FORM 1B, Where are we suppost to find out about the "Penn professor wwith whome we would like to study or conduct research and explain why."?

oOStarGazerOo: AFter tou send in part 1, a little postcard should arrive, confirming that they have received this part of the application. As for the interview, the admissions committe contacts us depending on if there's an available alumni in the area who is able to interview you.

gmman: If you are applying online, I don't know ho you can let them know that you've taken seven AP exams, but if you're doing it by paper, then you can probably just attach an extra sheet.

skierdude: just list the AP courses you're taking; it is not expected that you will list exam scores, since we don't take exams until May.

And yes, you can list any significant awards you've received, or a description if you feel it is necessary, under the position heading, OR you can do a "resume", which just explains activites in a more in-depth way.

nystudent23: doing a search on google will give you plenty of results. For example, if you plan on majoring in Political science, or Biology, type in political science professors at Penn or biology professors at Penn on google, and you will be given the faculty website, with short descriptions of the professors in the department. Just pick one who you think is interesting.

Krabble88: on the rec forms, there is definitely a place to write your social security number......maybe you should just check again?

Q: on my activities list, I put soccer on just one line, but i've coached, refereed, played varsity (i hope, finger crossed, lol), and gotten about 300 community service hours through it. Do i keep it on one line, or do i spread it among 2 or 3?

26e- If i were u, i'd spread it out. I'm really involved with swimming, i've coached summer league, taught lessons, been on the varsity team for school for 4 yrs, and swam on a club team since i was 10. I put club swimming and varsity swimming on two seperate lines in the extracurricular section and i put lessons and coaching under the work experience part. Thats where i think u should put being a referee and a coach, even if it was volunteer work

very good idea...i forgot i got money and hours for this too. i just dont want to sound like a one trick pony...even though i am ;)

for teacher's recommendation, is asking a foreign language teacher going to hurt me?
my potential major is Urban Studies and I'm also interested in internatioanl relations or something...so I was thinking of asking gov or econ and spanish teachers...

what do you think? is foreign language considered an academic course at TOP SCHOOLS like UPENN???

lol, foreign language is DEFINATELY a legit subject... urban studies on the other hand.... lol jk

If I haven't sent my SAT scores out yet, should I rush them?

^^ I don't see why you should rush them. I think they will get there in time for November 1. Just to make sure, I would talk to Collegeboard.

Question: so I was on the Varsity Swim Team for a year (10th). (Had to leave due to extenuating circumstances--health problems.) For position/letters earned and stuff, would it be advisable to put Backstroker and that I got a Rookie Varsity letter?

newyorker, yes, you should put your position on the swim team ,as well as the letter you earned. Even if you participated for one year, you made a significant contribution to the team, and you should make that known.

I'm doing the application online and I know there is a part I and and a part II. I'm done with the part I but I don't see part II anywhere, am I supposed to send in part I to get part II? if not, can someone link me? thanks.
