i'm from new york city.
My GPA was quite low in freshman year, but I pulled it up to a 3.82 over the years. And yeah, i'm taking a 4 APs this year, one of which is AP micro/macroeconomics, so i really have to take two AP exams for the class in May. i guess i'm doing ok in my classes, but not stellar or anything. i'm doing poorly in AP calculus, but doing well in multivariable calculus, which is supposed to be harder.

oh, and from what i've read, the Adcoms understand that seniors usually tend to do poorly in AP math classes, so they don't take that grade too seriously. i read this in "A is for Admissions" by michele hernandez, who was a former Adcom at Dartmouth.

hmmmm.... my counselor said i made a good choice applying ed to wharton... i wonder if that means anything...

meh i don't wanna get my hopes up...my gc is pretty dumb, as you know skier, so prob didn't know what she was talking about haha

oh i really hope they don't call my GC. he'd be like, Penn? what's that?

lol I have an "Incomplete" on my record this year for PE because my teacher forgot to call in the grade..

chlor were you the only one to apply ed from ur school?

actually... i have been thinking about this (my counselor might of recieved a call) and if the adcoms couldnt decide between defering and rejecting an applicant, they would reject them. very few deferred applicants are ultimatly admitted (and by few i mean less than the percentage of RD'ers that are admitted). they wouldnt put some one that was already barely competitive in the might be admitted pile if the applicant is obviously not up to par with the other deferrees.

lol at least you GCs know you.. in a school with as many people as my school, my GC have no idea who anyone is. even when he sees us very very often (bugging him about universities and stuff). he still doesnt even know my name.. and it doesn't help that I transfered in last year.

hey, its a good thing that you got a call, it means that they are still interested in you, other than a downright rejection... (not to sound cynical or anything, im sure you are absolutely brillant and will be accepted). Just dont mess first quarter up, and remember you are not the only one suffering from senioritis...chances are hte rest of hte nation have been bitten by the bug much MUCH worse than the bird flu.

i'm not sure if i'm the only who who applied ED wharton in my school. my school is a competitive large urban public school in new york city with nearly 600 students in the senior class. so it's hard to know where everybody is applying.

have you thought about asking ur gc. I asked him if anyone else from my school is applying to penn and he said yes but he refused to tell me who...so idk. Stats from past years would also help. Unfortunately all ppl who ended up at penn are like valedictorians and bloody brillant geniuses...so idk what my chances are. Ooo and my grades are falling pretty fast too...but im not gonna worry about it casue i'll prolly get rejected

aminaest--does your school have tcci naviance? that's what i used to get a rough estimate using my school's history

Whoah, nope.... I just talked to my GC, hes been doing this for 40 years so I basically talked to him about it.

my school is very odd....
Its a half public school/ half magnet school.

So when i had my interview, my lady was like ... "wow 350, thats a big size for a magnet school" and i had to explain to her how the school is divided.

So basically, the public school is located at a rich area and lots of snotty popped collar preps go to my school. But then there are also ppl who live near the city and are hte real cinderella stories. Sadly, it probably wouldve worked out better for me if i stayed at my home school cause i wouldve had a high rank and everything else.

lol aminaest. your school sound alot like my school. my columbia interviewer already knew my school pretty well so I didn't have to do the explaning

If you "got a call" can u please post ur stats. and

2.WHoever talked about ADCOMS not being as upset about poor AP MAth grades senior year--- can u please extend your remarks? Im Freaking out!!! if i dont get in ED- im gunna have 4 As and 2 Cs in all aps (c's in calc and physics) tell me there is steill hope and that doesn not undue all i have worked for!

Im not sure, but during my interview, my person made if pretty clear that if i had any Cs, they would defer me to see if i improve. Then again, I dont know about ur statistic and you are from central florida so that will give ur apps a git of bright flickering light. Idk if htey called my school btw, they mightve called but if htey didnt its eitehr b.c. they dont want me (which is possible) or b.c. they are overwhelmed by apps.

Today I got called out of class while my gc was on the phone with someone asking for my grades, while the admission committee was going over my app. they requested my quarter grades.....and I have a C, B, and 2 a's. I also already dropped Physics. Basically I'm screwed.

To those people whose GC got called: did u have straight A's from 9th-11th grade or were there b's and c's somewhere? I can ask my GC about this since she seems to be pretty close w/ penn adcom.

btw i have similar grades to chlor and i haven't received a called from my GC (i asked). not that means anything given that chlor's case is certainly the exception, but maybe somehow it's worth mentioning. :)
