Penn State Acceptance

I applied to Penn State in early September. My weighted GPA is 3.85, unweighted is 3.3 and my SAT score is 1610.
I applied for Fall Admission with the Summer Session selected. I’ve always dreamed of going to Penn State and I’m so nervous about being accepted. I was wondering if anyone could let me know if I have a good chance?

@sar989 That’s a tough one. EC’s?

I played varsity volleyball all through high school. I’m an active member of our Mini-Thon and Class Council. I’m also the business editor of our yearbook.

GPA is in the middle 50%, but SAT’s are not. So you may be offered summer session depending on the major you chose. Some majors are very competitive, others less so. Penn State only somewhat considers EC’s, but I think with a 3.85 you have a good shot at at least summer session - which by the way, my daughter did this past year and LOVED it. So if you get into fall, awesome - but if you get into summer, consider it a great opportunity as well.

Thank you so much this makes me feel a lot better. I’m actually really hoping for summer session. I applied for Molecular Biology, but I’m not sure if that makes a huge difference.

would it be better for me to change to DUS?

In my opinion, unless you are applying to a direct entry major, if you are on the border at all - it makes sense to apply DUS. DUS is the least competitive and you can also explore and take classes for any non direct entry major while in DUS. Not to mention that 80% of students change their major. So I think you get your foot in the door, get into Penn State, and then you try to figure out what you want to major in. Being DUS does not hurt you.

I’ve already applied as a molecular biology major. Do I call the admissions office to make that change? Thank you for all your help

I was just told that changing it now will delay my application review or push me to an alternative campus

wow…you called admissions and they told you that? Last year it didn’t delay anything unless you changed after the priority date. Another poster here changed last week to DUS and was accepted this week. Sometimes it really depends on which admissions person you speak to. The people answering the phones in admissions aren’t admission reps. You can ask to speak to an admissions person directly. They usually take calls after 1pm. I’d call back because that doesn’t seem right since the priority filing date hasn’t happened yet and they don’t take applications in order.

Is molecular biology a competitive major? I’m torn between swtiching to DUS or staying where I am. I just really want to get in.

Just got off the phone with admissions and they switched my major to DUS. Hopefully I’ll have a better shot at getting into UP now.

are international applicants required to send official transcripts along with the application? It isn’t necessary for US citizens, I believe.

@vr12344 Make your own thread.

@bodangles im sorry!! the deadline is soon; i was worried

@vr12344 It’s okay, just remember for the future.

Also, the authority on the subject is usually the university’s website:
http://admissions.psu.edu/info/future/international/requirements/
“Penn State requires official secondary school records for all international students, as well as official post-secondary records for attempted college/university coursework (if applicable).”

@bodangles alright, thank you!

@vr12344 International deadline isn’t until February. Only the domestic priority deadline is November 30…

I was accepted in Penn State last week and my SAT score was 2010. My GPA is 3.7. For extracurriculars, I don’t have any impressive ones. I had two that I did for a long time but I didn’t receive any awards or anything for the activities.

I got in last year to summer session DUS with a 3.1W and 29 ACT. I didnt hear until the end of january.
