Hey just wondering if anyone has an idea on when Penn State will start sending acceptance or denial letters. I know a few kids who got theirs but most were ED

Penn state doesn’t have ED.

A few that have heard are usually the high stat kids. You should be hearing so in the next several weeks. Your online portal will change days to say “a decision will be made in the upcoming days”. Seems to average about 1-3 days.

I thought they did rolling admissions? If so, then that’s why they are receiving their acceptance letter so quickly. My friend already received her acceptance letter and she definitely did not apply “early decision”.

If you applied by Nov 30th you’re guaranteed a decision by January 31st. Most notifications come in January though. The process is random so anyone can hear back at anytime during the January 31st timeframe. Check out the penn state page on this site.

PSU does not have EA or ED. They only Starr rolling after November 30. There are a lot of ppl here who’s applications have been complete since early September who haven’t heard. They are not on a “first in, first out” system

@jihpsu is it necessary to send letter of recommendations for penn state and i’m not applying to honours college

@rohit1998 Nope. PSU won’t even read letters of recommendation. It is required for the honors college, but if not applying to Shreyers Honors College then don’t bother with them.

@jihpsu thanks a lot now my process will end faster and one more doubt do they have some number of seats reserved for international applicants because the priority deadline is diiferent from the nov 31st one and does that mean international students who apply before feb get the same preference as domestic who apply before dec

@rohit1998 That I don’t know! I have no idea how they determine the order of decisions, for either international or domestic applicants. I’d email admissions and ask. They also have a twitter that they answer almost immediately.

My D applied around November 1st and received an acceptance letter last Saturday (Dec 6th). Not sure why it came so soon after applying, wasn’t expecting it until late January!

Hey so I submitted my application early November and heard back a week later. I was surprised because I knew that PSU was a regular decision school and released the results on April 1st like other schools. I got in, but my resume and me submitting my app REALLY EARLY are probably what got me in. Best of luck!

@1008ryan thats not at all how psu admissions work. They are considered rolling. If you apply by Nov 30 you hear no later than Jan 31st.
Many many people who applied in September have yet to hear a thing.

So, I am wondering. When they update the status based on accepted or denied, is the wording different or does everyone get the same “coming days” notification. I know that there will be either a really great day or a really traumatic day coming sometime in the next weeks.
Yeah, the “coming days” notification is typically a 1-3 day decision notice. I’m waiting anxiously for my own decision.
@PSUGradMom Everyone gets the same “in the coming days message.” If you applied for a branch campus as an alternate to UP the picture will sometimes, if not all the time, change to a picture of the branch campus if you have not gotten into UP but into the branch you listed as another option.
Still waiting, still hopeful. It so hard to be patient!
As someone said on another thread, if you go back and look at last years acceptance thread and the year before, there was a flurry of activity a few days before Martin Luther King holiday weekend. So that would be the end of this upcoming week. Then there was a steady stream and another big flurry of activity right at the very end of January. So, if this holds true for this year, we should start seeing a lot of activity on the acceptance thread by this time next week. Fingers, toes and everything else crossed for good luck for us all!
I agree, if history repeats itself, a lot of activity will occur at the end of this week. Of course that won’t stop me from checking every morning and night between now and then!
Oh… I thought that it comes out on April 1st. People in September still haven’t heard back?! That’s really strange.
I received my acceptance letter in the mail so make sure to check your mailboxes!
