Penn State DISCUSSION THREAD Fall 2022 Admission

I don’t have that information and I don’t think it’s published anywhere. You could call or email the computer science department in the college of engineering, however, and they should have that information.

Schreyer and Smeal are 2 different things. Schreyer is the honors college. Smeal is the business school.

I just realized that I answered for Schreyer and not smeal. You are correct. Sorry about that. Trying to answer too many people at once. Schreyer has many more than 300 per year. They do usually only accept about 11% of the applicants to Smeal though if that helps.

Sorry for the confusion.

All good. I do wish the incoming class numbers by school were published somewhere

You are correct…It was not correct because I was answering about Schreyer and you were talking about Smeal! I cannot multitask apparently. Sorry about that. Smeal doesn’t publish their numbers, but they do say that about 11% of applicants are accepted into Smeal as freshman pre-majors.

My head is spinning these days as well!

No I was wrong here. I was posting about Shreyer and confused a whole bunch of people that were talking about Smeal.

Smeal only accepts about 10-11% of students, but they don’t usually publish exact numbers.

I wonder why they wouldn’t publish that? Seems like it would be great marketing

I wish they did as well! A lot of times the info we get is from people who attended accepted students days and report back the numbers quoted there.
Smeal college of Business is only at UP campus. The other campuses have their own schools of business (i.e. Erie is the Black College of Business), but I’m not sure if they include in their percentages those accepted 2+2 with an INTENDED major of Smeal. I believe in that 11% is only UP campus numbers, but who can ever be sure.

PS…I should not answer questions after work when my brain is not at its best lol. Thanks for understanding.

This is the only data source I’ve been able to find. It isn’t about this year, but has some data points for the past. Unfortunately, not acceptance rates by college. https://datadigest.psu.edu/#Data_Dashboards

If I’m looking at the data correctly, there were almost 800 students enrolled in the Business school for the class of 2025.

Thanks jlhpsu. I am planning a trip to PSU in April to attend the accepted students event with my son. Will ask that question.

I sent an email to Smeal admissions because I was starting to think I was crazy and did not hear the dean correctly. This was the reply, “That data is correct except usually our incoming class is a bit bigger than 800, closer to 850-900 when all is said and done. Our goal for the incoming class is around 800.”

Your definitely not crazy. I believe the application numbers and incoming class size to be correct. They would need to admit far more than 800 to achieve that size of a class. I believe the yield is around 27%. …. I’m not great at math but believe that would be somewhere around 3000. So the acceptance rate would be around 20%…… again, I don’t have the numbers and am not doing exact math but I think that is a ballpark

I’m also assuming the Smeal yield is similar to the rest of UP…… I find it strange that these numbers are so hard to find

Agree! My son was between Penn State & Maryland for CS. We visited both & he committed to UMD this week. He loved the campus!

My daughter is trying to decide between Penn State and one other school. Both seem similar in reputation for her area of study but very different school settings. I appreciate if anyone has experience with the architecture/landscape architecture program any insight they can share. Thanks.

Have the same between PSU and Delaware for Computer Engineering. Think he’s choosing UD only because it’s closer. Any guidance on how to get him to choose PSU?

Is there a reason you’d prefer that he attend PSU?
