zemookmook: why i dont have my rejection yet:

): none of my classes are transferrable
): i didnt wait to make the tiny adjustments
): so it would say
): cc transferable
): LOL
: so they're sitting there
): in thier office
): trying to computer
what the #$@% my gpa is
): LOL

bayarealivin confirms the gpa cutoff:

so i called UCLA today about my rejection (3.73, NO tap cause de anza doesn't offer it, and good everything else including pre-reqs and igetc).

the sole reason i was not accepted was cause of the gpa. the lady even mentioned that i had a 4.0 in the pre-reqs at the time of update. she DID confirm that i was just a bit short of the cut off. i forgot how they worded 'cut off' but yeah, there was definitely one. and since there was another member that said he was rejected with a 3.77, the cut off was probably 3.8......

the lady alsooooo said that for econ/bizecon, THEY ARRANGE APPLICANTS BY HIGHEST GPA.... so again, it was implied that they prettymuch don't really even bother looking into applicants with lower gpas as closely......... yeah, i can see that happening..

i also asked about the TAP program and how many ppl with much lower gpas got in and they said that each filing period, they have a number of available seats just FOR tap students that they have to fill. so thats why so many TAP applicants were admitted.

I'm so bummed that htey didnt even read the essays.

i don't think that the econ department doesn't really read the essay.
they said they arrange applicants by highest GPA, but it doesn't mean that they don't read the essay. I think many unis do arrange GPA first of all.

and if you guys have read the stat provided by UCLA, the average GPA for the admitted students in bizecon is 3.81 last year, and it's rising every year.

I am a UCLA bizecon major transferred last year and I can answer about the whole pre-major thing. It actually doesn't matter whether u are admitted to econ, econ int'l area studies, or bizecon, you are admitted to pre-majors anyways, and you only need to fulfill the requirement and hit the GPA for the specific area and you can get into any area you want.

For example, even if you are admitted to pre-econ major but you wanna do bizecon after you transffered, you can apply to bizecon major provided that you have an average 3.3 GPA in 2 of the Econ courses and 3.5 overall GPA, or 3.5GPA for 2 of the econ courses or 3.3 overall GPA.

Hope it helps somebody who asked the question.

also, if GPA is really the only factor the econ dept accepts an applicants, how come people post about a 3.9 and 4.0 GPA student both got rejected for bizecon?

Also, I don't know anybody who didn't get 4.0 major GPA from the school they transferred. So don't make it such a big deal of having a 4.0 major GPA in college. almost everybody has it.

by "major GPA" i mean the pre-reqs GPA.
Sorry for posting so many messages. I should have posted them in one time.

invazn much?

teddybear, I have a question. I think around 250ish people transfered to pre Business Econ last year. Of those people, do you know how many of them actually got into the major after taking the required classes at UCLA?

What if i'm transferring from uci? I know that my gpa will be counted cuz it's within the uc system. I have like a 3.8 in my three basic econ classes and two intermediate econ classes. Do you know if that counts or will i have to retake them? I've competed all the premajor stuff and more I think.

colin,

seriously, i can't tell you until later in this quarter because we just finished the pre-major courses in UCLA last quarter and we just applied major this quarter. but if you want to know i'll keep you updated and u can just PM me.
but then, i can tell you from the friends i know.. about 30% of the pre bizecon major are not even qualified to apply major (not meeting GPA requirements)
but there are also many of them who took some of the pre bizecon major classes here and think they don't like it and change it back to econ, math/econ, or econ int'l area.

worriedsenior: i think the transfer information includes the inter-campus transfers ones... except in your acceptance letter it said it's "business economics" instead of "pre-business economics", you have to retake those courses... i'm not sure though because I am not an inter-campus transfer. Sorry.

oh alright, because on the UCLA website it also states that you must have a 3.0 in major prep GPA to be "eligible" for Business Economics and a 2.5 in major prep gpa to be "eligible" for regular Economics.

i think the 3.0 ones is for non-transfer? i think transfer is 3.3??

It states the whole 3.3 thing but there is a condition. It seems that you also need a 3.0 in major prep gpa to even be considered for admission ontop of getting a 3.3 in those 2 econ classes at UCLA.

i think this whole 3.8 thing isnt true.

well.. the 3.0 pre-major GPA is your CC GPA+the courses you have to take in UCLA in order to finish the pre-major. so it counts your CC GPA for pre-major GPA but in your UCLA transcript it doesn't count.

what do you mean by not true ze

like, i dont think that there is a gpa 'cut-off'. i find the idea quite absurd. it hasnt been in place for years, and now they do this? it's not consistent with last year's pre-economics decisions, either.

even if it seems to be the general trend, i dont think they have some sort of 'policy' in place.

well.. if you don't believe you can just search it in UCLA. the CUT-OFF ISN'T 3.81! i'm saying the average. that means students accepted can be lower or higher than 3.81, it's just the average. believe it or not. I remember last year's stat was pretty much the same. +/- 0.01.
