well then its just like haas. except, there is one minor difference, i guess...the low end of the gpa scales are all tap's....wow, this ucla stuff is just nonsense

haas is 3.91 i believe.
well.. i do agree with you the whole tap thing is idiot. I hate that because i mean.. honor classes in JC can be sooooo easy and although i was in TAP, i didn't think the classes are considered HONOR AT ALL. and it pulls down the UCLA's average GPA with that freaking TAP thing.
but that's the reality dude... no one can help.

teddybearggb, I will be applying this fall to UCLA for the major Mathematics/Economics. Do you have any suggestions, such as what I should try to maintain my gpa, .....

I got a 3.46 and was TAP certified and was just admitted to UCLA for the fall. I am a perfect example of someone bringing down the average GPA. That means there must be a lot of 4.0s.

I love the TAP so much. I want to get TAP tatooed on my arm. I TAPPED that ***. I told all my friends to do TAP. TAP is the best thing that has happened to my life.

sweet,

Math/Econ is NOT in economics department, but instead it's in the Math department. Personally I think it's a good major and if you are planning to do grad school in economics, it would be an ideal major. And I would suggest to take as many Math as possible in CC (probably u have already taken the highest level of Math?)
Also, Math/Econ's average GPA is lower than the other 3.. so as long as you are maintaining around 3.6-3.7 GPA you will be fine (it's not as impacted as bizecon and econ)
if you are good in statistics it would be a PLUS.
are you doing TAP? if yes it would be really awesome.
maybe some skills in programming too.
hope it helps....

smith, you are right, there are lots of 4.0. i remember when i first transferred and tried to ask around, people around me (even in econ only) were all getting 3.9X and 4.0 in CC. So that's why i told ze, it's no big deal to have a 3.7 overall GPA and 4.0 pre-req GPA in CC. nobody cares.
good luck to you!!!!! bizecon is a cool major and employers love UCLA bizecon!

teddybearggb, im just happy that the avg gpa is not high as the other econ. ones. I just have this big fear off not getting acceptedd. Well, my so far my gpa is around 3.2-3.3, hopefully it will go up, and I'm doing the tap program. So hopefully that will help. Is the math department harder to get in than the econ one, or it doesnt matter?

sweet,

the math department is not as impact as econ department, so I think it actually would be a little bit easier than the econ one.
GOOD LUCk!

thank you :)

I'm going to meet with a counselor at UCLA tomorrow.
I'm meeting with counselors at both Mathematics and Economics dept so if you have any questions that need answered, post them here and I may decide to be nice and ask them for you :)

Edit: nvm.. the counselor won't be in the office tomorrow due to some stupid conference thing... looks like my visit to UCLA won't happen until next week =/

i got in!!!! ucla econ

3.9 GPA
no TAP
lots of community service and vice president of student government

SOOO excited

What happens if you get a D in calc 2? Do you still get the units? DO they let you take it over during summer?!

im getting a C or B depending on my exam monday and my final. go study kenney! they might let u slide with a D if u retake it.

i might retake it if i get a C.. .is that pointless?

hi, i
m really glad i found this thread because i have sooo many questions about this whole CCC transfer to UCLA thing, especially about bizecon major.
1) what
s tap, how does it work? do i need to be an honors student?
2) I plan to start CCC this fall, but there might be a chance I
ll have to start only in winter, could I still complete all the prereqs and transfer to UCLA for the winter semester of 2010? Or maybe I got it wrong, and I have to start this fall or wait 1 year for the next fall? I
m from Russia originally, and this is going to be my first experience in the US educational system, so I really don
t have the whole picture of how it works here, sorry.
3) is it true that tranfers are admitted to UCLA to a pre-major bizecon and then have to meet some requirements at UCLA to get into bizecon for real? what are those reqs?
4) how much does it take to get 3.5 GPA? how many B
s and A`s out of ten, for example, grades makes 3.5 GPA, if there are no grades lower than B ?

1.) TAP stands for "Transfer Alliance Program". Just like its name, it's a program between UCLA and community college that aids students to successfully transfer. Usually you need a GPA over 3.0 and you need to complete certain Honors classes to become TAP certified (but the requirement varies by school).

2.) Someone else answer this

3.) Yes. You'll have to complete 2 pre-requisite courses after you transfer to UCLA. Those are Econ 11 and 41. You also need to take Econ 101 and must get at least 3.5 GPA for Econ 11 and 101 courses. If you can not get a 3.5GPA, you will automatically be disqualified for BizEcon and will have to choose other Econ department major (Economics, International Relations/Economics).

4.) It depends on the unit. If the two classes have the same unit, you will need to get one A and one B, or one A- and one B+.

3) I heard you are allowed to re-take one of those classes if, for example, you did not meet the 3.5 gpa mark. True or not true?

1) Being TAP certified is a huge advantage for many. For me, I had a 3.46 GPA and I was admitted to UCLA for Pre-Business Economics. There were many people with 3.6 3.7 and 3.79 GPAs that got rejected, yet I was accepted pretty much because I was TAP certified.

Tap Certification means that you completed 15 units of honors courses at your CCC, or showed intent of completing 15 units of honors courses before you transfer. After you apply, you get TAP certified meaning a TAP form is filled out by yourself, a counselor and the honors coordinator. That form is sent to UCLA around February.

A grades are worth 4 points
B grades are worth 3 points
C grades are worth 2 points

Econ 1--> 3 units x A = 12
Econ 3--> 3 units x B = 9
Calc I --> 4 units x B = 12
Calc II--> 4 Units x A = 16

Total Units: 14
Total Points 49

Points/Units = GPA
49/14= 3.5
