Perks of a private university

What do current students feel are perks at Trinity compared to a public university?

Hi,pesos!

Not a student, but a parent.

I’ll just put my daughter’s likes regarding TU.

No hallway bathrooms.

Suites alternate male/female

No high- rise dorms

Rooms are spacious, and come with bi-monthly cleaning service.

Most campus events are free or nominal in cost.

I could go on.

Thanks gloworm…D is trying to decide between UT Austin and Trinity. She is leaning toward Trinity because they offered her a scholarship, she was waitlisted for the honors program at UT.

Hi pecos,

I’m a current student at Trinity and in addition to what gloworm posted (which indeed is a big plus) I’ve found that the academic environment at Trinity really make a huge difference, especially compared to UT. I have a close friend that goes to UT and so I’ve gotten some insight from her.
Trinity gives you a lot of interaction with your professors. The classes are small so you can participate in class, and there are no classes taught by TAs. The professors are always available if you need help, and really give personal attention to all of their students which is great if that helps you engage in what you are learning.

My friend at UT has had some difficulties deciding what she wants to major in, which has been pretty stressful for her. If your D knows for sure what she wants to major in, then UT might be a great fit, but one of the great things about Trinity is that it gives you a foundation on a lot of different areas, and then you can decide on your major your sophomore year. And changing majors is a lot easier because you don’t have to go through the process of changing the school of study you were admitted under.

UT is a great school, but I think your D should consider what kind of learner she is, if she would thrive with more personal attention, and if she wants a kind of flexibility academically that does not commit her to one college in a university with so many choices.

Thank you sgwTU12.
