Personal note?

Hey how many of you guys got/get personal handwritten notes from your area rep?

My S was called 2-3 three times on the phone by Ohio Wesleyan because he requested an application and didn't send it back. Some college admission offices are trying harder than others.

If your handwritten note came from Harvard, you are doing well. There are a few candidates each year who are heavily recruited. "The Gatekeepers" by Steinberg talked about how some URM's with very high stats are recruited and sent free plane tickets to visit the school.

did he end up going to Wesleyan?

No, he asked for the application, and ended up not applying there. It just seemed a little (?) that they were so determined to try to get him to apply. He didn't have any kind of hook to justify phone calls and a lot of stuff coming in the mail.

For the OP, if you got a handwritten note from an extremely selective school, you must have a hook. Maybe your GC is talking to them about you.

it's not a selective school realyyyyyyyyyyyy smaill (1,000 guys), all-male......

anyone else have stories like this?

What's YOUR story?

i received a greeting card from an alumna who graduated from Mount Holyoke. Then after that, the west coast representative from CA sent me a handwritten letter with her business card.

i just got a letter like hers, map, busness card

are u attending/planning to attend Mount Holyoke?

heh...phone call from Kettering

that's about it

do u plan to attend?

A personal note is pretty much a indicator that he'll get in. Sometimes it reflects how aggressive the admission offices of the schools are to improve the quality of the school and sometimes it reflects on how an advisor thinks that an applicant will really fit in. If the office didn't know much about your son and sounds like it didn't it is probably because the school is on the upswing selectivity-wise.

i got one from bucknell...she tells me to read this article about this doctor from bucknell...idk how she knew i wanted pre-med...but is this an indicator ill get in?

Are these really handwritten notes or just computer graphics, fake handwritten notes?

"upswing"?

Its written, and i never even contacted Bucknell...
