Pitt Acceptance Letters Mailed?

Not only that they will take off around 15,000 for private colleges in PA. My only problem with this is that its really unrealistic. About 100/380 in my class have 3.0+. Probably half of them will go to a college in PA so how will the state government pay for it???

When are they starting that?

Pitt and Penn State are not state-owned schools, they’re state supported schools. So residents would receive the cost of tuition at a state-owned school and they could apply it toward tuition at Pitt or Penn State (or a private school, for that matter).

I just did a little quick research, and this is the tuition at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, one of the state-owned schools:

Tuition: $2,777.00 per term

So I’m assuming that would be roughly the amount that Pa. residents could apply to any college in the state.

Pitt in-state tuition is $13,344 per YEAR, so assuming Pa. residents would get $5,555 a year off that. Not free tuition, but a help.

I don’t know where steelersngators got the $15,000 figure.

Maybe I’m a cynic, but I see this as just an excuse to expand the scope of legalized gambling in Pennsylvania.

15000 was an average but this is just a proposed idea it will take a while before something like this actually happens

Please note the first half of the first sentence in the article:
“Gubernatorial hopeful Jack Wagner pledged…”
We’ve now moved this thread into a political discussion on the remote possibility that a Pennsylvanian politician has any intent (or realistic hope) of keeping a campaign “pledge”? Please be advised that Pennsylvania is the ONLY state in the US that has NOT yet passed a budget. Also the state is so busy spending “projected” gambling revenues that they are looking at allowing table games to increase that money.

If you are hoping to get state money in Pennsylvania for college you are probably better off buying a lottery ticket. Just my opinion…

Ok, a non-political, more practical question to bring the topic back to its original purpose:
How do you get your application reviewed for guaranteed graduate school acceptance? I was considering doing this (I applied to the School of Nursing several weeks ago) but want to know if a. it’s too late and b. if it’s worth it.

Thanks!

Does Pitt have a grad school “Guarantee” program for Nursing students? I know they have them for Pre-Dental and Medical School.

Perhaps an answer is to be found buried deep within the undergraduate admissions website:

“Graduate School Guarantees
Outstanding freshman applicants who indicate certain professional programs (including business, communication science, dental medicine, dietetics, education, engineering, law, medicine, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, public health, public and international affairs, and social work) as their intended field of study on the Freshman Application will automatically be reviewed for guaranteed admission into that professional program. Early application is recommended as spaces are limited.”

[Application for Admission | Undergraduate Bulletin | University of Pittsburgh](http://www.bulletins.pitt.edu/undergrad/2admissions.htm)

Are there any Pitt students or parents out there that can confirm?

I got my acceptance letter Friday! My top choice and I am instate! Do I have any chance for scholarship money? My stats are not phenomenal:
SATS: 590 Cr/630 Math/630 Writing
Gpa: 3.9
Class Rank: 44/267
Senior Schedule:
Intro to Psych (at local college, dual enrollment)
Effective Writing (at local college, dual enrollment)
Calculus AP
Spanish AP
Physics AP

I’m not expecting full tuition but something. I also submitted an essay about my trip to Poland. :)

Hail to Pitt!

“guaranteed admission into that professional program”
What is the Nursing Professional Program?

^I’m guessing MSN programs like a Family Nurse Practitioner Program or a Clinical Nurse Specialist Program, which is strange because most Masters programs in nursing require 1-2 years of ICU experience…

I think I will call Undergraduate Admissions tomorrow and report back :)

@SlaskWroclaw18: You might want to post your admissions info under the “Class of 2014 Admissions Decisions” thread :)

“I think I will call Undergraduate Admissions tomorrow and report back”.
Great idea. Good luck finding someone who knows.
I will tell you that during the “So you want to be a Nurse Day” at Pitt this past Summer, we were told that Pitt would rather have their own BSN graduates in Grad school than other BSN grads because they know the quality of their undergrad education. For whatever that is worth…

How long does it take from when your application is complete til you receive something in the mail saying whether you’re accepted?

@ aglages: No good response from Undergraduate Admissions today. They told me to call the School of Nursing, and by the time I did they were closed. I will call them tomorrow for a better answer.

@alantill: It seems to be taking about 2-3 weeks on average.

I live in Washington and got my acceptance letter today  It’s my first reply from a college and the first acceptance letter so at the moment I’m ecstatic! :D

^ When did you submit your app?

Congrats Henry_WA!! Hope you get a lot more acceptances (if that is what you want).

How about posting your stats in the “Official Class of 2014 Pitt Decisions Thread” on this forum?

Hey Slask, congrats on getting into Pitt! I know how excited you were about Pitt from your posts on SDN. As for scholarships, people usually start getting them when they are at the level of honors college, and your stats aren’t really there. For in-state, the lowest scholarship would have started at $2k anyway, so you’re not missing out on too much, in-state tuition is pretty cheap.

Thanks schritzo! I know my stats are not spetacular but I am proud of what I accomplished and I am excited for Pitt. Going to start applying for a lot outside scholarships now! What is your name on sdn? The same as here?
