Pitt Acceptance Letters Mailed?

Yeah, I go by the same username on SDN.

In as of today, out of state! Honors College, but no hint of guaranteed admissions to the grad school like I wrote on my application.

Which guaranteed admissions to the grad school you applied ?

I applied to the Graduate School of International and Public Affairs.

^ Does the admissions committee automatically review applicants for those programs? If not, what separate application must be filled out?

Oh, and @ aglages:

I still am waiting for the School of Nursing to return my phone call
Internet digging shall have to suffice until I receive a proper response.

smart.cookie: This quality if internet sleuthing is ONE of the reasons why you are a smart cookie.

Thanks for the information. The disclaimer at the end “Fulfill all specific requirements for selected graduate program.” would lead me to believe that you are going to need at least a years experience before you can gain admittance to some / many grad programs?

aglages, sometimes the work you do while in school, or over the summer, can count as work experience. You could work for four summers and bam, you have a year - Pitt might be onto something like that (after your first year you should be able to pass the CNA exam and work as a CNA - the juniors in high school here get it after a semester).

applicannot: It sure would be great if someone could knock out the prerequisites for Nurse Anesthesia over the Summer while an undergrad, but I have my doubts. I think it would be difficult to gain a years critical care nursing experience until after you have passed your NCLEX.

During this past Summers’ “So you want to be a nurse…” day at Pitt, it seemed as though half of the students wanted to know how to get into the Nurse Anesthesia program. The most optimistic (shortest time frame) answer that I can recall was that you can start taking your Nurse Anesthesia academic classes (core curriculum) part-time after you graduate, but before you have your one year of full-time critical care nursing experience. I don’t know whether you first need to be admitted to the graduate program before beginning your core curriculum, but logically you would probably need to have taken and received an acceptable score on the GRE.

…okay.

I was just offering the idea.

After re-reading my response, I realized it came across as “shooting down” you suggestion. I absolutely was not finding fault with your idea, and I (and I’m sure others) appreciate the suggestion. None of us have all the answers and publicly discussing possible plans of action benefit all of us. Sorry again if I came across too harsh or critical of your idea.

Received my letter of acceptance yesterday in Minnesota! Honors college, too. Although I’m not really interested in that… Now just hoping for some scholarship money to come my way to make this all possible.

Congrats matok! Hope you get tons of money. So much that you have to weigh it instead of counting it.

Hahaha don’t I wish…

Matok, did you send your ACT score to Pitt? Also, the engineering school does have its own scholarships that can be added to anything else you get from Pitt. And being a female engineering student from Minnesota is definitely good.

Yes I sent my ACT score. If I remember correctly, Pitt is the school I applied to that send I have to send ALL my scores, right? Because I believe that’s what I did…

Also, does Pitt accept dual enrollment credit? I can’t seem to find any info on the matter on the website…

I don’t know about dual-enrollment, but Pitt is generally good about accepting credits from college-level courses taken in high school.

The scholarship info usually takes about two weeks to arrive after the acceptance. Keep watching your mail!

Yes they are good about transferring the credits but if you are in Engineering – they only give you credit for a few courses. The transfer credits shows up on Peoplesoft and I think it didn’t appear sometime in the Spring semester.

Did anyone submit a financial aid info? Like does Pitt need the profile, etc. to get the scholarship info, or is this all merit? How is is different for out of staters?

For the merit scholarships, you didn’t need to file the FAFSA (only if you didn’t need any additional financial aid). If you need financial aid, you need to file the FAFSA when it becomes available next year.
