I am confused about Honors College Admission – would this be indicated on the acceptance letter? My D received the email acceptance (loved it) and then the official letter a few weeks later. There was no indication about Honors College - although in-state and with outstanding stats that are well above their average. She was led to believe during her first visit that she would have no problem making the HC. Without honors college it will fall off of her list completely.
If acceptance to honors comes at a different time and she is being considered we will be re-visiting Pitt this upcoming week (a day off of school) but if honors college decisions were made with acceptance decisions and she did not make the cut, we will be revisiting UMD-CP on that day instead. Trying to maximize the days off of school to revisit close- by choices to help with the final decisions.
I was under the impression that notification about Honors College eligibility is being sent out later this year.
As far as the Honors college goes from my understanding, you are either automatically eligible for taking honors courses based on freshman stats, or you can request to be allowed to.
Pitt has many academic and other opportunities for top students apart from taking honors courses. Courses are rigorous especially in the sciences and engineering.
My D got the email then two days later the acceptance letter and then a few days later separate letters for Honors acceptance and GAP acceptance(in an area that does not require further competition). So it seems this year those announcements are separate.
@novicemom23kids, There is no formal acceptance to the Honors College. Students who meet the eligibility requirements are automatically eligible for the Honors College. You can check out the requirements here: https://oafa.pitt.edu/explore/university-honors-college/ If your daughter meets those requirements, she will be notified in a letter about her eligibility to enroll.
That said, even students who do not initially meet the requirements as incoming freshman have the option to enroll in the Honors College as a sophomore if they earn at least a 3.25 GPA in their first year.
Hope that helps clarify!

@hailtopitt1787 I saw that the requirements are a 1450 SAT and a 32 ACT. I was accepted with a 1440 SAT, but received my ACT score of 33 after admitted. Should I send my ACT score to be considered more highly for the Honors College and Merit Aid? If so, do I need to let Pitt know that I am sending these since I have already been accepted?
@Kramer1, You are welcome to send. But please do contact our office first and let us know! 412-624-7488. Our processors are available M-F 8:30-5 p.m. and they can make a note in your applicant profile.
@COof2017HH I talked to someone from the Honors College and he told me that it is HIGHLY unlikely to get merit aid if you aren’t eligible for the UHC. It is possible of course, but not likely.
How long does it take for my application to go from incomplete to complete? It says the Application Fee is outstanding and my SAT scores, but I sent both in. Also, it is saying that my transcript is outstanding when I completed the Self Reported Academic Record. Just slightly confused lol
@jc1127, It takes a few business days. Our processors have to confirm that we have what we need. That incomplete status will clear out after they have time to confirm.
How long does it usually take to receive the email with the applicant account activation information to check on admission status after submitting an application? My son sent his in a little over a week ago. He did receive a Peoplesoft # but not the activation info. Thanks!
@iammom5 I’d suspect you’d be getting activation info relatively soon. It took about a week and a half for me to receive mine. If you don’t get it sometime this week, you should contact the office of admissions and ask them what’s up.
@iammom5, You should get it very soon! Our office doesn’t actually send out the account activation information. If you don’t receive any word in the next few business days, feel free to contact our technology services staff: http://technology.pitt.edu/
Will my intended major affect my chances of getting into the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences ? I put premed as my intended major but I don’t think I can get into the GAP.

Guaranteed Admissions Program-I thought my son met the requirements to be invited to apply to the GAP for Pre-Medicine. Top 3% 34 ACT 20 AP/Honors, 4.4 W, 4.0 UW. Took all the most difficult courses. I called Pitt Admissions this afternoon and they said you have to be top 1% in your class to get invited. The lady that I spoke to said this is on their website. Can anyone confirm that this is the case? Thank you
