This is a pretty technical question that I don’t have an exact number on. However, with some students being waitlisted most spots will be filled. So if an admitted student decides not to come to Pitt, a waitlisted student will typically take that spot.
@hailtopitt1787 - the offer letter states that admitted to School of computing and information with intended major Computer science. Does it mean its a direct admit to a major? Many colleges like Purdue and TAMU makes you go thru FYE and then declare /compete for the major. Is it simialr at Upitt? Can anyone confirm please
Thank you @hailtopitt1787! Very helpful. But are students outside of the Honors college still eligible to take honors classes if they meet the requirements?
Hi @ppxyz123, this means that you have been admitted to SCI with an intended major of Computer Science. Once you meet all the prerequisites then you will be a declared Computer Science major. Does that make sense?
@pittsburghscribe, yes, some programs/courses are open to all undergraduate students. Also, if you don’t get in as a first-year student, you can re-apply at the beginning of your sophomore or junior year.
Is there any way to determine those courses in advance, @hailtopitt1787? For example, there’s an honors course for FYE in engineering analysis & computing which, if taken instead of the regular sequence, allows the student the opportunity to take a more hands on course the second semester. Will non-honors students be eligible for that in the fall of their first year? And, if so, how would they go about applying or getting into that class? Thanks again!
@pittsburghscribe this is a question that should be directed to Pitt Honors. I’m not entirely sure how their course registration works so I recommend you reach out to them directly: 412-624-6880
Daughter just waitlisted for honors - high stats 1540 SAT, 4.0 uw, 4.58w, 12 AP’s with 5’s on all taken so far, 800 on two subject tests, volunteering, state championships for track & field. Was considering Pitt but will go elsewhere since she has other options and is disappointed about honors.
My sister received the Panther Pride Award (7k a year) when she received her financial package in 2017. (she does not attend pitt but I was just comparing her package to mine) I did not receive this same award. I was wondering if the Panther Pride Award is awarded on a merit or financial basis?
The Panther Pride Award is a need-based grant. If your parent’s income has changed since then, that might be the reason you did not receive the award. However, I still encourage you to call our financial aid team to make sure your financial aid package looks correct: 412-624-7488.
Those participants in the Chancellor’s Scholarship interview process are notified of their final status no later than mid-April. Both recipients and non-recipients will be notified.
@Flounderbooks I apologize if I’m confusing you, I’m basing my answer off of what has been historically done. If they told you at the end of March then that’s probably correct.
@Nasagirl My D is in the same boat as of March 16th. She got a merit scholarship from every other college so I was expecting, maybe wrongly, some merit aid from Pitt, but no word yet. I don’t know if this is a “no” or they are late. She was accepted a month ago.
Are Merit Scholarship notices still being sent out or has that process ended? D was admitted 3 weeks ago but no word on merit aid. Hoping she would get some.
