@DSOF20192023 Okay, so I just spoke to one of our senior leaders and the reason for this reconfirmation of interest is due to a number of students on the waitlist that have already made other plans (roommates, housing, etc.), as stated on the email. Reconfirming your interest just lets Pitt Honors know that you haven’t made other plans as I have just stated or if you have made other plans that you understand that those will be overridden by honors housing.
I hope this helps and again, I apologize for the confusing emails.
@DSOF20192023 “Other than taking classes, are there any advantage was my question. I know housing is one, may be some scholarships/research opportunities? also some special guest lectures?”
As I known, there is no difference there.
Honor housing? a lot of honor students do not apply and stay “First Year Honors Housing Community”,
(I do not see the REAL benefits stay in Sutherland Hall.)
based on the link https://oafa.pitt.edu/explore/pitthonors/
“It is also important to note that many Pitt Honors programs are open to the entire University population. For example, all students are allowed to apply for research fellowships and admission to Pitt Honors courses, even if they are not official members. Most Pitt Honors enrichment programs are also open to the entire University community.”
Study hard. Your D will be a shining gem in Pitt.
(A gem always shines. it does not need an honor title to prove it.)
@hailtopitt1787 Looks like some are getting honors notifications. Can you pl tell us if honors notifications are going to be out this week? My D is desperately waiting on this to make her college decision.
@DSOF20192023 Our office is not managing this waitlist, Pitt Honors is making these decisions and sending out notifications. If you have concerns please give them a call: 412-624-6880
thank you @hailtopitt1787 .We called them and did not get a definitive answer on timeline except June 1st. My daughter moved on and signed up for another school. Good luck to all Upitt 2023 class!
@DSOF20192023 Good Luck to your daughter!
S19 also moved on from Pitt after not being offered honors despite given honors at other, way more competitive schools. S19 is valedictorian, nationally recognized musician, ACT 35… I could go on. A school that only uses just 2 extra essays to determine honors is not worth attending IMO.
We will gladly pay OOS tuition so he can attend the school that factored in the ENTIRE picture… including 3 essays for honors.
