I usually receive a list of recipients shortly after they have been awarded, I have not yet received that list so I don’t believe the recipients have been notified yet. I would assume they’re coming out very soon though!
@sams2018 she emailed her territory manager with a request for review and included recent academic achievements/improvements/changes since her application. Lmk if you have other questions. I’ll let you kno when we find out! https://oafa.pitt.edu/esm_directory.php
@hailtopitt1787, can I ask - what are the requirements to be in the Honors College again?.How many Honors courses do they need to take, and is there a GPA requirement? This is for Nursing, if it matters.
@hailtopitt1787 - My daughter is very interested in the nursing program at Pitt, and we’ll be visiting this summer. She attends a super-competitive, nationally known public high school. Is rigor of high school considered when determining merit aid? Thanks!
My OOS D was set on Pitt and didn’t want to apply anywhere else but did apply to 2 other schools. Pitt originally awarded full tuition merit before she was picked as Chancellors Scholar. Mind was made up with full tuition award. Chancellors was an added bonus! Received $45,000 from Case Western Reserve.
@hailtopitt1787 My D committed to UPitt and eagerly waiting on Honors decision. She gave up offers from other collages with honors and wants to come to Upitt.
Earlier UPitt said they will announce Honors decisions by June 1st but is there any possibility of hearing that decision earlier than June 1st? Asking this question is because of the wait-list decisions are coming from different colleges and it is hard to hang on to Upitt honors decision.
Does Pitt honors that different? Can not we do all the things a honors students do (mainly registration of courses) even without honors?
If she got put on the Honors waitlist she will know by June 1 but there is a possibility of hearing from us sooner. I know the waiting game is tough but please also consider that many Pitt Honors programs are open to all Pitt students. For example, students are encouraged to apply for research fellowships and take Honors courses. Additionally, students can re-apply to Pitt Honors after completing their first year.
@DSOF20192023:"Does Pitt honors that different? Can not we do all the things a honors students do (mainly registration of courses) even without honors? "
Yes, you can register any honor courses you like.
BUT
Most of honors courses may have pre-requirements
For example,
0715 Foundations of Biology 1 (UHC) requires students have AP test score equal/greater 4 or IB test score equal/greater 5
Another important thing you should know before take honor courses is
honor course is very competitive, a lot of students gave up after they found it hurts their GPA. (usually no curve for honor courses)
Example,
2018
0715 Foundations of Biology 1 (UHC) fall term has 35 students
0716 Foundations of Biology 2 (UHC) spring term has 21 students
16 of 35 decided not to continue taking 0716 after having 0715
(35 - 16 = 19 + 2 = 21, 2 new students joined)
@bsmdegree Other than taking classes, are there any advantage was my question. I know housing is one, may be some scholarships/research opportunities? also some special guest lectures?
@hailtopitt1787
BTW Upitt asked today if we want to be in WL for Honors and have to respond by tomorrow. I do not know why they have to ask this even after we committing to UPitt and earlier we said yes even without committing.
@DSOF20192023 I think I know the email you are referring to. Does the subject say “Pitt Honors wait list update”? If so, this is an email letting you know if you have been removed from the wait list and into a spot in Pitt Honors. The email only requires you to respond if you are no longer interested in Pitt Honors. If you are interested, no action is necessary.
Please confirm that we are speaking about the same email. If not, please let me know what the subject of the email was so I can dig further into this.
Subject: University Honors College Wait List Update
Congratulations on coming to Pitt! As you know, you are on the waiting list for the University Honors College. We are currently in the process of determining who from the Honors College waiting list is still interested in being admitted. Please complete the following brief form indicating your interest.
Please note three important things about this form!
We need to receive a response from you either way – whether you want to remain on the waiting list or not.
If you indicate on the form that you are still interested in the University Honors College and you are admitted, you will be automatically assigned Housing within the Honors College living learning community. Any previous Living Learning Community or roommate selections you may have requested will be overridden by your honors housing assignment.
We need to receive your decision about this by Thursday, May 9th by 12:00pm EST.
