I’ve just been accepted to Pitt and I’m now waiting on Drexel’s admission decision. I think I have a pretty good chance with Drexel, and I’m trying to decide which to go to between the two. I personally prefer the Drexel/Philly environment to the Pitt environment and it’s much closer to home, but I’ve heard that Pitt has the advantage over Drexel education-wise. I haven’t decided what I want to major in yet, but I’m leaning towards English/Journalism. Help?
Is cost an issue?
Yes, but I haven’t gotten any news about financial aid from Pitt yet because I still need to send them information, and I have to wait until April to hear from Drexel.
I’d re-post when you have all of your acceptances and aid information.
Hi congrats on your acceptance to Pitt. I grew up in western PA and love Pitt. But now I live in Philly and really like Drexel. They have the co-op going for them… Philly gives you a bigger market for journalism and closer to NYC and DC. Pittsburgh the citty can be isolated when talking about employment. You would probably have more fun in Pittsburgh, school wise, but Drexel would give you more work experience. Don’t discount Drexel because of price. You may get enough money that it will equal out with Pitt. Pitt doesn’t give too much free money out. similar to Penn State. You can’t go wrong with either school! Good Luck.
I think Drexel is on the quarter system.
Have you gotten a scholarship from Pitt?
FAFSA priority deadline is March 1 for Pitt so make sure you get accurate (based on 2015 tax return) numbers submitted soon. You should hear about FA from them in April as well.
Drexel is on the quarter system due to the Co-op experience.
For English/Journalism I would lean toward Pitt - if it was Engineering/Comp Sci I’d go with Drexel all things being equal. it would have seemed Temple would have been a better Journalism choice in Philly.
Re-post when you get all of your acceptances in order and know the net cost for each school and what is affordable. Before that time you are really just spinning your wheels.
