Did anyone take the placement test for Math (Pre-Cal), (Chemistry) and (English)?
I really don’t know what to do! I wasn’t confident about me getting into UC Davis so I didn’t plan anything… What should I do? Are you supposed to take the tests now or something? or is too late?

you take the placement tests during orientation. The english one you are suppose to take in your city or at your high school. You will get an email about the english one later on. Don’t worry about them. The placement tests are very easy. Or at least very easy to pass.

For the chem placement test, all you need is 19/44 on the multiple choice to pass. Passing it will allow you to enroll in chemistry. Failing it, you will have to take a workload course before you can enroll in the actual course. if you fail, you may retake it. they allow you to take it like once or twice a quarter. I failed my first time, retook it and passed, and did perfectly fine in chemistry course.

For English, you really want to pass that test. you may only take it once. you only have to take it if you get less than 670 on your SAT writing. I failed it, and had to take and pass a workload course with a C or higher. (4.5 unit course, but you get 0 units from it. Waste of time.)

Math… im not too sure, I didnt have to take it since I had AP and SAT scores high enough to waive it. I do know people who got placed into pre-algebra courses though since they did not do too well on the placement exams.

Just try to do the best you can on these exams. No need to worry. Most people over worry for this stuff. I know I did last year. But… they aren’t hard, and very easy to pass.

oh thanks for the info! that was really helpful!

placements tests are actually scaring me right now though…

Is the analytical writing exam the English placement test? I was wondering because i looked it up and it said something about being given in California. U live in Alaska so what do I do about that? Maybe my info is wrong but can anyone answer this?

the awpe is the english placement exam I believe. I’m not sure how it is for OOS students, but during orientation, they give you dates to make-up exams for people who did not take it yet. (only people who are taking it the 1st time are allowed to take it, I tried to retake it and… lol!)

I just took the math placement test and the truth is that if you take the practice tests on the ucd website you should do fine on the actual test. Also there are very similar questions on the real test in comparison to the practice test (i.e. practically the same) so you shouldn’t stress. I got a 54 which is pretty good so you should do well also.

So if you do well on AP and sat tests you don’t need to take the math or English placement tests? And everything can be taken at orientation in the summer? Sorry it’s just all so confusing, I never even would have thought to ask something like this

@katiesmith: Unless you are skipping to second quarter calculus, you need to take the math placement exam. You take the math placement test online sometime before your orientation. At orientation, you will choose to take either the chemistry placement test or the language placement test.

At least this is how it all worked last year.
