do i have to select two courses for each Learning Communities, Global Studies and Discovery Program?
how to complete their campus computing tutorial? just finish looking all the info?
and what's the CITES email for?
thank you

anyone???

The chemistry test can have questions on essentially anything you might typically learn in a one high school chemistry course; it is not AP.

The math placement test, which you can take multiple times and use highest score for placment, is an “ALEKS” test, see aleks.com. It is a progressive in that as you get answers correct, it starts providing more and more advanced questions and as you get them wrong it starts decreasing the difficulty. I believe it can take you through questions that would be considered pre-calculus.

Living learning communities usually do not have course requirements. However, you should not really get in one unless you are going to be taking courses that would fit within the community. The main advantages of a community, besides that all members are housed in the same dorm, is that for a number of classes (usually at decent times of day) that fit within the community’s goal, the members will have priority registration (when you go to register you will learn that can be important) and some times the classes will even be in the dorm. Cites is your campus email system. Once you are given a designated email address and then set up a password you will be able to get in it. Not sure when they give those out now but in past it was part of summer orientation. And computer tutorial is just looking for all the info on the cite. There is also info provided at the summer orientation.

but for the college homework section, they request me to choose 2 courses for each Learning Communities, Global Studies and Discovery Program. so even if i chose courses for them, it’s not neccessary to take them next year right?

i have a question for the chem/language placement tests. i just logged in with my UIN to take the tests, and it said- “The following placement exams are available to you: No assessments are available” does it mean i dont need to take them?
p.s: i am in LAS

I am not sure what the result is by choosing two. Unless you are actually registering, it should not prevent a change when you do register. Likely they are just trying to see how many might want a course so they can set up the courses for registration.

As to Placement tests, I am also not sure what is meant by “assessment.” You must take the math placement test. In LAS, you must take the language placement test unless you completed the fourth year level of a language in high school in which case you only need to take it if you plan to take courses in that language in college. You only need to take the chemistry placement test if your major is one of various science type majors – anything in chemistry, geology, biology, astronomy, geography, or physics – or you intend to be be part of any pre-professional advisory program – medicine, dentistry, veterinary, optometry, pharmacy or physical therapy. Otherwise you don’t need the chemistry placement exam unless you actually want to take chemistry in college.

i didnt complete 4 yrs of language in high school, but i grew up in a different country and i can speak another language perfectly. i think thats why i dont need to take the language test

“assessment” here means the scores/results you got from your placement test. For chemistry, it is not available until you see your advisor during the registration.

Yes. You can take the proficiency test for the non-primary language to meet the general education requirement for language. However, the language should be one of the languages that UIUC offers as classes.
