Plastic surgery. I'm curious. Mostly because a girl I know at my school just got a nose job/boob job. She looks better I suppose, but the reactions she's getting have been mixed.

A lot of asian girls around here seem to want to get eyelid surgery, and it's common for jewish girls to get nose jobs.

What do y'all think about plastic surgery? Would you ever/have you ever gotten plastic surgery? Which proceedure? Why or why not?

Guys, would you date a girl if you knew her boobs/nose/whatever were fake? Girls, what do you think of people who get surgery?

I always wanted to have bigger boobs, but from all my previous boyfriend and my boyfriend now tell me that they're perfect and if my boyfriend doesn't have a problem then i'm not going to worry about getting one. But if I ever did want to get any form of plastic surgery it would have to be below the face, because I think it's weird for people to just cut their faces like that. I would only agree with it, if they had something on their face that prevented them from living properly, like if your nose was caved in or something like that, then ok, but what's the point other than that? People should be happy with their god-given face.

Just go to wikipedia->look up breat implants, etc..->>>additional links->there are good websites that'll convince you not to do it.

If you're a good-looking person, then it's really condescending for you to say to an ugly person that plastic surgery is "wrong" and that he or she should be content with whatever. I would prefer a world without plastic surgery, but as there's nothing morally questionable about it, I don't have too many issues with it. My only problem is that with the high prices of cosmetic surgery, it creates a two-tier world where the rich are beautiful and the beautiful are rich.

Another issue commonly raised with plastic surgery is that some people get them to erase their ethnic identity. I call this BS. That's like saying that every white person who gets a boob job is trying to be black (who are generally curvier than whites). Of course, this notion is deemed implausible since many will say that there are numerous whites with big breasts. Well, there are also many Asians who don't have slits for eyes or Jews with huge schnozzes. It's like people buy into the intentionally-ugly stereotypes of certain ethnic groups and expect everybody in that group to look like that, and if they get any kind of work done to alter it, they must be self-haters who want to look "white". On a related note, blacks have bigger eyes than whites, so any Asian who gets their eyes done are actually trying to Africanize themselves.

Boy here.

Fake boobs aren't as good as real boobs, but they are better than no boobs.

Those are very good points, NBAChris. I have to agree that it's far easier for someone with a naturally sexy figure and pretty features to denounce plastic surgery simply because they've never felt how painful it can be to be self-conscious about their looks, or even teased/outcasted.

I personally feel that if you have the money, and you fully understand what you're going into, then go ahead and have the surgery. There ARE real risks, though. From what I understand, proceedures such as implants and nose jobs are relatively safe, but liposuction can be dangerous, and the older you are the higher the risk. (think about it, you're taking big chunks of flesh out of your body.)

Furthermore, I think lipo is a little drastic ... from what I've heard 40% of people who have it end up gaining the weight back anyway. Much cheaper and healthier just to go on a diet and exercise more.

Another anecdote: A mom of a girl at my school went to Venuzuela to have liposuction. She didn't do the preventative care steps after the surgery, had a blood clot, and died.

You really have to be careful!

i guess fake boobs are okay. i personally can't say that getting fake boobs is a bad decision b/c i don't know how it feels to not have boobs. so, maybe if i was flat-chested i might consider getting implants...

Boobs are overrated.

Plastic surgery is mostly for people with little self-esteem and feel like they can't be "beautiful" if they don't change something about themselves. They feel like as if they have to conform to social norms and the existing, mostly male driven, ideals of beauty.

I personally would not date anyone who had any plastic surgery because I feel like she would have low self-esteem and would need constant support and compliments about her looks. I'd much rather have a girl who is confident in her looks and abilities to attract guys/girls.

Boobs are not overrated. Clearly, you've never...

Well, nevermind.

Sorry, Hef.

Meestasi: Good point. While I don't have anything against plastic surgery, I probably would have a little more respect for someone who was able to find happiness and confidence in their lives without spending 5k+ to go under the surgeon's knife.

Fake boobs suck.

I don't like the concept of plastic surgery, but I suppose I have nothing against more hot girls in this world. Just don't overdo it or feel as if it's necessary, because it's not.

my best friend at my old school used to be extremely flat chested, and she always got crap about from catty girls and jerk guys, she decided that she's gonna get a boob job before she goes to college. i think that if getting a boob job will boost self-esteem, then by all means, go for it...

However, if the person has a serious deformity/needs reconstructive surgery because of a burn or other accident, then I have absolutely nothing against that.

Not to say that I have significant qualms with someone who gets surgery, I'm very much a live-and-let-live type of girl, but in some cases it really can be necessary for the patient's mental/social wellbeing.

hotpiece: That was the case with the girl I know who recently got breast implants. She was very self-conscious about her features, and now is much happier with herself. She says she feels more confident, and because of this I support her decision. It's certainly not a decision for everyone, but if you do it for yourself and not other people, then I think it is acceptable.

Still, she is a beautiful person and all of her friends (me included) would still love her even if she hadn't gotten the surgery.

Well of course, by all means, if girls want to they can do it. However, I compare getting a boob job to getting a butt implant. IT definitely isn't necessary for anything at all, it just gives your lover soemthing to grab a hold of. Of course, well-endowed girls are quite attractive, and our culture has started to emphasize the shapelyness of many women, which I personally prefer over the rail-thin girls like Kate Moss. However, getting implants is a sort of temporary release from self-doubt. What's gonna happen when a girl gets old and has to have the implatns removed? Or if she gets breast cancer? There are so many problems worse than beign flat-chested. American consumerism is definitely alive and well, yet sometimes it disgusts me.

And on a similar tangent. The extravagance of you girls sometimes with your shopping disgusts me. I cna't fathom purchasing a little piece of cloth for more than 20 bucks.

LOL, speaking of stupid female consumers (which we all aren't, btw! dont' worry! x.x;)
A girl on my speech team recently purchased a new pair of fashionable sunglasses.

The price? FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS. I kid you not. $400 for a piece of plastic that probably cost two bucks to manufacture. It's amazing how much money these companies can get just by stamping some Chanel logo on their products.

I mean, there are so many better things you can do with $400. Think of all the art supplies and sushi you could buy! Or ski trips! Or, uh, college application fees!

Tsk. Tsk. And females are considered the more intelligent sex.

okay, i can't really bash your friend for getting $400 sunglasses. i love shopping and sunglasses so i can completely understand that purchase. but yes, there are other things to spend money on. but if you want and can afford $400 chanel sunglasses why not?
