Changing appearance

I'm an asian w really small and sleepy eyes. I hope to get a double eyelid surgery before college. What do y'all think? :)

…um no.

Be happy with who you are. I think Asian eyes are really pretty.

I freak out about eye things in general, so blepharoplasty makes me want to run away and hide. Can you imagine if the knife slipped? Oh dear goodness, no.

@Millancad- Lol yea I’m pretty freaked out by e process too.

Thanks @BryDeeC (: but I think generally most ppl prefer big eyes, so I dun like it sometimes when ppl juz pass me off becoz ‘my eyes are dull’.

I think most of the respondents won’t be Asian people who understand just how common double eyelid surgery is. If your parents are okay with it, I don’t really see a problem with it. (But I might be biased because I’m set on getting a nose job before college. I HATE my nose.)

^^No problem. And people who do that are stupid. Not worth knowing anyway, right?
^Yea, I’m not Asian, so I guess I can’t fully understand. But, there are some similar issues in the black community (mainly light skin vs. dark skin) that I really cannot stand. I’m a chocolate-skinned black girl, and I would never put any of that that skin lightening **** on my skin in order to look more like Beyonce or Tyra Banks.

^^ I wanna get my nose done too, but I’m pretty sure it won’t turn out like Halle Berry’s.

Heh obviously these people are not Korean. I am a korean. Eye surgery in our culture has now become as common as the American infatuation with McDonalds and Wendys.

Lol my mum’s dead set against the idea. She’s juz extremely paranoid abt everything I do now.

I juz wonder if double eyelids are over-rated. My friends tell me that some ppl actl prefer mono-lids, but they’re prob juz comforting me lol.
I know that appearances aren’t everything. And I used to not approve of plastic surgery in the sense that I think there shld b more depth to ppl than looks. But it’s juz so upsetting that ultimately, looks can still make or break opportunities.

No that is a ridiculous idea. I personally think it is completely unnecessary and arbitrarily aesthetic.

Of course, it is your body.

[My eyesssssssss!](http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EyeScream)

i think asians are really beautiful, and i have to say monolids are pretty !!! on guys i think small eyes are really cute =D but i guess if its really causing you pain and you can afford the surgery and recovery time…then i guess it’s really up to you.

There’s this Korean chick in my class who got “double eyelid surgery” the summer between eighth and ninth grade. She used to be quite charming actually, but I never got used to her “new look.”

I am repulsed at the idea that someone so young was so caught up with looking a certain way that she felt the need to get eyelid surgery as a graduated middle schooler. I guess that might be the Korean culture (as another poster pointed out).

But hey, if it makes you feel better…before college is a good time to make the move.

Don’t do it! Large eyes are overrated. I have them and oftentimes feel as though I look like a deer in headlights.

deer =/= anteater

Perhaps the perception of oriental beauty to the West is smaller eyes? But asians value larger eyes more idk.

Though cosmetic surgery is prevalent in places like Korea, most ppl still shun it :/

So confused now, my mum totally freaked abt e idea. But I wanna get e surgery b4 college, coz I expect to mt new ppl there.

I thought I had double eyelids my whole life. In freshman year, I noticed my left eye had a monolid. I looked at pictures of myself when I was younger, and I did have double eyelids before. So I’m not exactly sure when my left eyelid turned into a monolid, I only noticed it in freshman year. It stayed like that for a long time.

When I went on vacation, the summer after freshman year, I woke up one morning with my left eye swollen. I’m not sure what happened. It hurt, so I only assume something bit me.

After the swelling went down, my left eye had a double eyelid again.

Just wanted to share that. I’ve also heard stories of how some monolidders developed double eyelids just from constantly using eyelid tape or eyelid glue.

I’m sorry you feel this way. Beauty, and variances in perceived beauty, is tough, but to think that people will use eyelid tape/glue (I had to google that) is…sad.

If you really feel like you want to do this, bear in mind that eyelid surgery is irreversable. Personally I prefer double eyelids too (or maybe that’s just me and my ego biases), but this is ultimately your decision.

If you want to carry on with this, by all means do so. This is the best time to get eyelid surgery so you can get used to your “new look” before college. But life is so much more than double or mono-eyelids. Don’t stress, do what you feel is right.

As for the knife accidentally slipping, I’ve heard from some of my Korean friends that lots of Korean cosmetic surgeons are extremely experienced with that kind of surgery, so I wouldn’t worry about anything going wrong. It’s just a question of what you feel is best for you.

:)

i think asian eyes are quite pretty…so why change that? :)

but if you HAVE to go ahead with it and you’re positive it will make you feel happy then go ahead.
