Please chance me for Chapel Hill in-state?

Okay, I’m in need of a chance me because I have no idea whether or not I’ll get in to Chapel Hill. On the one hand I’m black and I live in state so that helps a lot, but on the other hand my grades and GPA are not fabulous. Do you think this could be overlooked though, since I am an IB diploma candidate? My extracurriculars are pretty weak as well and I feel like I have a lack of leadership. Also I’ve been regretting applying regular decision. Do you think this will hurt my chances?

Other: I am a national achievement semi-finalist, but I don’t know if this will help at all

Your SATs, National Achievement SF status, ECs, and in-state-ness (is that a word? ;)) certainly make you a very strong candidate, IMHO.

And yes, I think the National Achievement thing will very definitely help.

OK, thank you! Hopefully you’re right!

You have much stronger ECs than my older son. Until I started browsing this board, I had NO idea how crucial ECs were. If I’d known, I would have encouraged DS to do more service projects.

Best wishes! I think you have an excellent shot at getting in.
