PROMPT : Do success and happiness depend upon choices people make rather than on factors beyond their control?

Whenever it comes to making a choice that has or will have a profound effect on my life, I often find myself unsure , worried and fearing that I might be choosing the wrong option. Life is a journey and the path we choose will determine the place we land up in .Hence our choice really does matter but it is more necessary to believe that whatever we have chosen will lead us to success. Luck and fate cannot change much if we have the strong will to fight life.To elucidate my perception, I would like to illustrate the example of my cousin Rita and the poem the Road not taken .

My cousin Rita always had a penchant for the medical profession. However her parents felt that the profession involved a lot of time and hardwork and advised her to choose Engineering instead. However Rita had not an atom of interest in Engineering and always dreamt of being a cardiologist. Despite her parents constant persuasion she followed her heart and is now a well accomplished cardiologist working in a reputed hospital. Her parents too are proud of her as they now realize that she couldn’t have done so well had they forced her to do something she didn’t like .

Moreover, the poem The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost highlights the extent to which our choices affect our lives . The poem is basically about the poet’s dilemma when he comes across a forked road in the woods .Both the paths seem equally trodden and inviting .After thinking for a few moments he decides to choose the one less travelled by. In the end after many years he looks back at his choice and confesses that his choice ,which may be right or wrong did make a difference in his life. Thus the poem metaphorically suggest that the decisions that we make , big or small, do have an affect on our success and happiness.

Hence,to conclude , the examples of my cousin Rita and the poem the Road not Taken illustrate that success and happiness in life do depend upon our choices and decisions.Hence it is very essential to believe that the choices we make are right and work appropriately to reach our goal.
