So in today’s test made a mistake similar to @writerzt71 where I think (not 100% sure) I misbubbled an entire reading section after omitting one of the vocab questions, then putting my next answer in the omitted question’s answer space. I didn’t inform the proctor or test supervisor. Will they still hand score it without an irregularity report? Should I just cancel and redo in January or is it worth the wait? I’m not going to apply to college until next year so it’s not that urgent. Please help!
@studylivelove this is hard because 1) you aren’t sure if you messed up and 2) you didn’t catch it in time to get your proctor to file an irregularity report. this means if you did mess up, your answer sheet will be scored and reported on time but it will probably be much lower than you expected. you would have to get them to hand score it after the fact because when i inquired about hand scoring they told me i would have to wait until after my score was released to pay for that process.
i personally would go ahead and cancel if i thought i misbubbled an entire section and then just study hard for the next one but it is your decision. i did not cancel because my mistake didn’t involve an entire section. if you decide to hand score be prepared for a long wait, probably two months after the test kind of wait : ( i’m really sorry that happened to you though
I finally have my score and I made a 2060. The section that I messed up in, CR, was the lowest of the three and just so happens to be the section I messed up bubbling. I was considering score mid to high 700s on reading so that’s strange.
I made an 8 essay on the writing which also surprised me. I had expected a 10.
Math, strangest of all happened to be the highest and I usually score lowest on it. I also barely studied for math. My score report for math also says there were 2 difficult questions but that I missed 3 difficult questions in the geometry section…
I think I’m going to call once more just to inquire about what I just said for the math. It makes me wonder if they just guesstimated my score based on one section, were too lazy to find my essay score or purposely did not fix my CR because they did not think I deserved it.
I’ll update again today : )
@writerzt71 Holy heck. I’m so scared. I made the exact same mistake and I’m getting sections 1-5 graded on the first one with 6-10 on the second. God, I wish I had just changed my answers slyly instead of telling the proctor. I guess I’ll have to go through what you did.
@joeweller ahhhh stay optimistic you may not have to wait as a long as I did since you had two separate answer sheets!
On another note thanks to @SeaArgent for providing Trout’s number. I’ve gotten my case reopened and he’s working on figuring out whether or not my score is accurate for which I am so thankful to him for. I’m glad he is much more responsive because the woman originally in charge of my case did not respond to anything. She never answered my email nor did she answer the three phone calls I made to her. These were all spaced out as well–I did not call her back to back to back because I wanted to give her time to respond if she was busy and I didn’t want to be a nuisance. I will hear back from this man (and Duke!!!) on Thursday so I’ll update again then : )
Hopefully! @writerzt71 Do you recommend contacting them now about the process and trying to get it escalated or do you recommend waiting?
I’m so glad your situation got sorted and you’re with the right guy. People can be so unhelpful. It sounds like a literal nightmare, and I really hope my boy Trout can get you sorted ASAP.
Did you do Duke ED?
@joeweller thanks! Yes you can try going ahead to get it escalated but when I tried they made me wait for the day scores were released.
@cappex yes I did!! It’s a big stretch for me but I’m trying to stay optimistic about it with all that’s happened to me lol. Did you apply?
No, but I applied to WUSTL ED :P.
I have been doing well on ACT practice tests, but I get really nervous during the real one, so much that I find it hard to focus. Since you somewhat have experience in this issue, any tips?
I never get nervous when I take a test so I don’t know how you might go about solving that issue. I think maybe not doing any practice and just relaxing a day or two before might help you not be so worked up about the real thing. Sorry I can’t be of much help with that
@writerzt71 @SeaArgent I made a call to CB today and they told me someone get in contact within 5-7 days and they acknowledged that my answer sheets are the “Exceptions Scoring Department”. Should I go ahead and contact Trout or believe CB in that it will be handled in a week or so?
Well, I just called Trout.
He said he had my scores:
CR: 760
Writing: 600
Math: 560
WHAT THE HECK!!!
I got a 740 in Math, 720 on Writing last time. What the heck? CollegeBoard, you scum!?!?!?!
@joeweller I think either way you’ll have to wait 5-7 business days : ( By the 7th business day an SAT advisor in charge of “escalated cases” will email you explaining how you will have to wait another 2-3 weeks for your score to be accurately reported. Sadly, their bureaucracy is terribly inefficient seeing as it somehow takes 2-3 weeks to score one answer sheet, but more than likely that is what will be the case.
I do recommend contacting Trout still, because he is one of the better advisors in charge of escalated cases! He gets back to you in a much more reasonable time frame (like 1-2 days), is very understanding, and responds to emails and calls. Mine was Brandy, and I don’t know if I mentioned it or not in this thread, but I emailed her once and called her three times during my three week waiting period and did not get a single response. You definitely don’t want her!
I’m sorry this has happened to you as well! How long have you been waiting so far?
@writerzt71 I contacted Trout. Please see the above post
@joeweller Oops sorry I must have started writing my 4:29 P.M. post before you posted yours! At least you got your score but wow that is really bizarre? Your reading is very high, did you score that high on previous/practice tests?
@joeweller: The CB is sending confirmation of your scores in writing, correct? That drop in math and writing seem disturbingly low for a student who has scored significantly better in previous testing periods.
I must ask, was there anything out of the ordinary for you regarding your health or readiness for testing that day?
@writerzt71 Yeah, I came out of the test feeling really good about Reading and Writing. Writing was Section 5 and I think Math was Section 6, and the error I had occurred on section 6 so 1-5 on the first and 6-10 on the second. I was scoring 730-740 on reading the day before.
@Waiting2exhale Mr. Trout simply said that the scores were under hold but he said he could unhold them and see what they were “unofficially”. There is no confirmation in writing, although we’ll see tonight as scores formally do come out tonight. As stated previously in this post, I felt really good about writing and reading – at least 750+ on both. Math was about 700. My answers agreed with those on the discussion. No health or readiness issues. The only problem was that I was accidentally filling in the bubbles of section 7 while on section 6, so I called over the proctor, who told me to continue the test (6-10) on a second answer sheet and 1-5 would be graded on the first. I trusted her with that decision.
Right on that, joeweller. Are you perplexed about these new scores,as revealed to you on the phone?
I would think a re-do of the scoring would be in order. You wouldn’t get the scores until May, but it seems beyond weird, and out of place, that you could score in the reverse of your scores to such a degree.
@Waiting2exhale Yeah, incredibly perplexed and saddened. In fact, my answers for writing are in agreement with the 800 scorers on the SAT thread. I really expected a high Writing score, and to fall beneath how I’ve done on my earliest test of 690 (scored 720 in November) for which I felt little confidence is shocking. Math is absolutely mad. Also, my scores say “not yet available” at the moment.
That being said lol, I will follow your advice and complete the Hand–Score Verification once l see my Score Report. I will likely have to retake in January for the 4th time as I have no idea if my scores are correct, and 4 times is looked down upon as well. One tiny mistake and so many repercussions.
