Guys, I just want to say that there are a few people on this site who lie about their grades to make everyone else feel bad. A few people said they got a level 5 on the AP Chinese exam, which doesn't come out until 2006. And with SAT II scores, it's amazing how many people claim to have 800's on all three during a single administration. In my personal opinion, i think these are people who really recived 720's or so and just want to make the people who really did earn 770's and 780's feel sub-bar.

If we want to make this a site where we can all go to for real, honest, and unbiased opinions, I think we need to be a bit more honest to each other.

I think most people on here tell the truth. I can't imagine that many people would need to lie to people they don't even know. Further more, cc is a self selecting pool, and thus its generally the smarter kids that are here. When on some SAT II's as many as 12% or more of the test takers get 800s, it's not that hard to believe that a lot of them are on here.

IMHO exrunner you are a naive kid indeed ;) But I wouldn't worry about it, cheaters only hurt themselves, especially when they see some real 800's like i pulled off go through

Okay, so lets assume that half the people here are full of it. That only helps me, competition isn't really as fierce as this board makes it out to be. I'd say that view is better than pretending no one is really as good as these people say they are only to find out that they really are.

Coming here just to lie? it is pretty hard to comprehend how one won't spend time to prepare for the test but instead wastes energy lying to people he/she will never meet again...

Of course there are such people but your approach is too radical if not cynical.

"it is pretty hard to comprehend how one won't spend time to prepare for the test but instead wastes energy lying to people he/she will never meet again..."

It makes perfect sense to me. Studying only provides for the possibility of favorable results; lying satisfies the immediate want for respect.

respect on the internet? what does that give you? don't say satisfaction. if one thinks that way, (pardon me for my audacity) then one is truly stupid.

i don't know if there are lots of liars on cc but i definitely don't see a need to lie. 750+ is great and people shouldn't feel bad about it. i don't even think 800s are very much respected around here since so many people can get that score, so why lie about it?

I personally believe the majority of the ppl here do not lie - to the one's who do...what's the point? Wait, lemme answer that for you - none. Most ppl. that frequent this board, including myself, just want an honest assessment of themselves/advice on academic related topics/others' opinions on stuff, etc. B/c we are all generally speaking very academically oriented and motivated, of course CC will draw in a bunch of high-achieving ppl. As others have said time and time again, the overall strength of CC'ers is WAY above the normal student population, so I don't doubt that there are among us, many of those 1600/800/800/800 genius types - good for you if u are - I'm certainly not one of them :)

ah well. i used to feel bad when i saw people's scores.. espically to the school i wanted to go to.. but then i got in.. so bleh. it doesnt matter what people score on SATs. (or PSATs for that matter.. i seem to the only one so far that posted on a question for northwestern admits' stats that's NOT national merit. And as of yet... i have no 5s on any AP tests... (looking at people's lists of 5,5,5,5,5,5,5 on AP kinda sucks, but o welpz. Just ignore those perfect scores and liars.. the way i see it, its not likely i'd have to be around them anyways.

If you have to lie to people who don't know you about a test score they don't really care about to make yourself feel better, you need to get a life and get some friends.

Sometimes people lie b/c they want to believe it themselves. To make my point clearer:

Kid studies uber hard for SAT... I mean, puts A LOT of effort, and maybe becomes a bit obsessive. His scores come back-- 760, 700, 710. Not bad numbers, but still not what he had his heart set on.

Ok, so now he's cruising cc, sees people who got 800s. He gets a little jealous, a little insecure, "Well, 760... it might as well be 800. I know I could do 800." And boom. Score is exaggerated.

So, I think people who lie about their scores are trying to lie to themselves. It has nothing to do with gaining the respect of someone out in cyberland, but everything to due with trying to gain a bit of self-respect... albeit in a twisted manner.

a lot of stuff here is bsed...i mean it. some stats are too crazy to be true unless they are exaggerated. of course...some people's are not fake, but really...a lot of ppl here exaggerate and make up things. like...i have to admit i exaggerated my debate club where i said vice president, yet the elections was next week and i was the only person going for the vp spot.

There are an incredible number of extremely talented people in here. Sure, there might be an occasional liar, but for the most part... I feel that the average CC poster is not a liar.

Trolls are liars, but if they've been around here long enough... chances are they aren't liars. Come on, would you stick around knowing that you've lied on an internet forum?

I think this board is full of ppl who didnt get 800s and are mad about it. I legitimately have gotten 800s on two sat sections and two sat iis and am really annoyed when ppl call into question my credibility.
