PLEASE, what are my chances!?!?

Hi, I was looking for a little help. I would like to know what kind of colleges I should be looking at. I am currently a Junior. Here is my info:

My high school is a really selective, but public high school that takes only the top students in the County. Classes are honors, no APs available.

I would just like an idea of the kinds of schools that I would be able to get into. The ones I had been looking at so far are:

University of Pennsylvania (Possibly ED)
Cornell University (I know an alumni interviewer at Cornell)
Lehigh University
Georgetown University
Villanova University
Johns Hopkins University
New York University
Maybe Yale (if possible)
Washington University in St. Louis

Any advice? Thanks!

I think that you have a chance at all of those schools...I think that you should try to get your SAT verbal up though..good luck!

I'd say that NYU and Villanova and MAYBE Hopkins are matches.

I would add some additional match/safeties. Appears you are interested in sciences?

Are you retaking SAT? You may want to take the ACT.

Bucknell.

10 chars

Add some state schools to that list. You stand a good chance, even though your ECs are rather scattered.

well, the ECs at my school are somewhat limited, being that its so small (140 students total in all 4 grade levels)

i try to do a mix of things.

id like to major in business

and i took the SAT twice already and plan on taking it again in october

o, and add Marist College to that list as a safety

you should apply to villanova. they have an awesome business school which just got ranked 12th in the country by business week and im pretty sure you'll get in. and if you can get your critical reading score up to a 700 you can get a presidential scholarship. ANDD i'm going to be a freshman there in the fall. also look into upenn since wharton is a great business school!

for ur class rank...did u mean 5/300? and also...what do u mean by nj gov school finalist? does that mean u got in? ur achievements are quite beastly i must say...u hv a good shot at all those schools...

no i actually meant 30. thats how competitive my high school is. u have to take an entrance exam and get past an interview process just to get into the school! and a lot of kids try out from all over the county.

and by finalist i meant that i got past the county level. for the governor's school, there are 3 stages. school level, county level, and state level. getting past the state level means u were accepted. i got to the state level, but was then rejected. i figure its kind of an accomplishment just to get that far since only 300 kids in the state get that far, and only 100 get accepted.

You're Penn is going to defer you if you apply ED. Kids I know with much better stats and loads more ECs were deferred and then rejected. Ditto with Cornell. Ditto with Yale.

Your county's magnet school may not be as hard as you think it is. Unless it's Thomas Jefferson in VA or some sort of Govenor's school, it's not that great.

What's your passion? And your verbal score doesn't bode that well for super essays.

That isn't to say you don't have a shot. Work hard on your app. But take Wash U, Villanova, and Lehigh very seriously. They may be where you end up.

ah gotcha...i think u got a decent go at all those schools...if u can bring up those sats, that would be even better...get the CR in the 700s...other than that...ur stats looking good

(also add Boston College to the list)

thanks for the good replies! keep them coming!

any more advice?

if its not too much trouble, could I get quantitative responses for each school? thanks!

here is an updated list of the colleges that i am interested in:

University of Pennsylvania (Possibly ED)
Cornell University (I know an alumni interviewer at Cornell)
Lehigh University
Georgetown University
Villanova University
Johns Hopkins University
New York University
Maybe Yale (if possible)
Washington University in St. Louis
Boston College
University of Chicago

and if you have any other suggestions for a business/math and mayb econ major, please also let me know! thanks

Knowing an interviewer is NOT going to help you. Odds are you won't get that interviewer.

UPenn 2%
Cornell 5%
Yale 1-2%
Georgtown 10-15% (if NOT sfs)
Hopkins 10-20%
WashU 20-30%
BC 30-40%
UChicago 10%
Lehigh 40-50%

wut is sfs?

and also wut does 10 chars mean?

ok, id like a few more responses, please!?!?

after looking at a bunch of forums and from everything that i have heard from other people, i am worried that i might be aiming too high. i need some more people to reply to give me a good idea of where i stand, so PLEASE keep the good replies coming!

(sorry if im too much of a pain)

i'd say you should add some safties in there... you might be shooting a little high, but you never know. I have friends who applied to similiar schools with nearly identical stats, but they got flat out rejected. It's a tough game.
