Do we expect too much from our public figures? Plan your response, and then write an essay..

Public figures are those people that are widely known and revered in the society but many of us forget that these public figures are human beings like ourselves. As a result, we tend to expect too much from them. Several examples throughout history and life corroborate this assertion.

First of all, we can take a look at international pop star Justin Bieber who is a perfect example of a public figure that we expect too much from. He has been under scrutiny and criticism for many months because he has failed to live up to their expectations. Many are quick to judge him but they fail to realise that although he is a public figure, he is still a teenager who is just trying to discover himself. He has made mistakes and will probably make more but he should not be berated because of every single mistake he makes. His situation shows that we often expect too much from our public figures, most of the time, we expect much more than they can or are willing to give us.

Likewise, we an take a look at other public figures like politicians and leaders who the public expect so much from. For example, in a country like Nigeria, the president, Goodluck Jonathan faces a tremendous amount of criticism from the public. Although, the president has a great responsibility to oversee all matters concerning the welfare of the country, he cannot accomplish all these objectives all on his own. He has been criticized for not making an improvement in the problems that plague the country the most like lack of constant electricity and clean water, poverty and many others. The public do not realise that these objectives can only be achieved gradually so they cannot expect the president to do everything all on his own without contribution from al the citizens of the country.

As we can see, it is very often we see people expecting too much from public figures. They need to give them a break and realise that these public figures are also human beings like themselves and should not be expected to be perfect.
