Plz help !!! transfer to UCLA

Hi all

i am an international in SMC. my major is Communication; however, my gpa is very low which is 3.2 i know the minimum gpa for Comm major is 3.7. does anybody know i still have the chance to apply for UCLA? or should i change my major or Global Studies ? Because some people said Global Studies does not require high gpa to transfer to UCLA. Thank you so much !!

Average GPA admitted for UCLA Global Studies 2011: 3.87
Average GPA admitted for UCLA Communications 2011: 3.91

Global Studies is better, but you will be rejected from both. Consider other options.

thanks for reply my question. Do you know what is the gpa for Global Studies ? Do you have any suggestion for me plz ? I am so worry about my future and I dont want my parents lost the hopes from me.

It’s 3.87, like I posted above.

You need to apply to schools that are not UCLA. With that GPA and those majors, you won’t be accepted to UCLA. UCI would be a reasonable school for your GPA.

so altought i change major to Global Studies, i still can not be accepted to UCLA, right ? Does UCSD would be a reasonable school also ? Thank you

UCLA is out of reach for your GPA. UCSD will probably require a 3.5 or so, try to raise your GPA to that level.

Sorry, try to raise ur gpa. atm, ur gpa fit for midlow uc tier - low uc tier.

Average GPA admitted for all UCs is generally around or above 3.5, so yea… Bring it up.

thank you so much. right now, i already have 52 units. i will do my best to raise my gpa. however, does UCLA have the units limited for transfer students ?

thank you so much. right now, i already have 52 units. i will do my best to raise my gpa. however, does UCLA have the units limited for transfer students ? thank you

I believe its 90 units. Junior-level transfer = 60 units.

thank you ! so i still have 40 units for me to raise my gpa right ?

UCs will only accept 70 transferable units, so technically you have 18 more units worth of coursework to mess around with. Focus on IGETC and major prep courses.

60 transferable units to be eligible.
90 unit limit.
70 transferable units accepted.

thank you so much. Do you think i should stay in major communication or change to global studies?

As for your said majors, if you don’t have at least a GPA of 3.8 or above then I would suggest that you look into another major. Both of those majors are impacted… I have considered majoring in Economics and have talked to a UCLA representative about my chances of getting in. According to the UCLA representative, the average GPA admitted for the major is 3.91. In other words, you need at least a GPA of 3.8 or above to be in the “safe” zone, but even having a 4.0 won’t guarantee you acceptance to the school. This should apply to Global studies and Communications as well. They are all impacted majors after all… But yea… after hearing all of that, the UCLA representative literally told me to give up and look at other possible majors I can see myself studying in. So keep looking and raise your GPA.

it shows the gpa is 3.7. oh my god !! i am so worry about my gpa and i dont know i should change major or not

thank you for reply my message. so what is your major right now? which majors do not require high gpa ?

The unit limit only applies to students who have credits from a 4-year institution. If you all your grades are from SMC or any other CCC, there is no unit limit. You can have as many as you want.

@JonnyL91 Thanks for correcting me…

@yjzeng1 It’s not 3.7. mmsiphone already told you the average gpa for your majors…but I guess you were referring to something else :</p>
