jw, are you allowed to take both poli 10 and 30 in the same quarter, and if so, is that a really bad idea? i am looking for a 4th class and that one would actually work in my schedule

You can take both at the same time if you want to (I took POLI 11 and POLI 30) at the same time. That said, I remember on the ERC Freshman Course guide or whatever they didn't reccomend POLI 30 for first quarter freshman. I got lucky and had a really easy professor (it was 3rd quarter freshman year, Desposato) but other friends who have taken it have had to work really really hard.

I wouldn't worry about HAVING to take 4 classes. You can take 3 first quarter and still be on track. It will also give you more free time to get used to college life :)

Desposato is teaching Poli 30 winter quarter so you can wait to take it with him if you want. I had him freshman year too and it was a pretty easy A. With that said, I've heard Galderisi isn't all that bad either so it's just up to you whether you want 3 or 4 classes this quarter.

Galderisi's pretty cool. I had him for Poli 30 in WI08. I didn't think the class was very hard.

I'm not sure who the professor was, but Wi07 my room mate took Poli 30 and she did WAY more work than I did the next quarter.

Must have been Kousser in WI07.

for me, the biggest problem is scheduling... i could pull it off but it would be a tough one, going from york to price theatre i think, because my MMW class messes it all up. i have a lot of AP credit so i think i might stick with the 3 classes right now. I just feel like i'm underachieving because i have friends taking 5...

york to price center is not that bad, theres a shortcut through the old student center

Friends taking 5 in their first quarter? Sounds ambitious but I'd rather have time to acclimate and enjoy my time at college. You only get that first quarter once; you don't want to be nose deep in work for most of it. There's plenty of time for that later.

thanks for all the help btw

is being a little late to class atrocious? like if a prof holds a class too late and you're sorta far away its ok to be a bit late right?

and...

i have a lot of elective credit already from aps, but is it ok to still take some electives? i want to take a music class that dosnt qualify for a ge... how many elective credits can you have?

Being late to class isn't the end of the world but it's in good taste to come in with as little commotion as possible. Taking a seat in the back is a good idea. Also, if you know that your classes are far apart and can't really do much about it, just talk to the prof of the class you'll probably be late for about the situation. They're usually pretty understanding and they'll know that you're not coming in late on your own accord.

Go ahead and take some electives. There's really no set limit on the amount of electives you take as long as you don't exceed your college's maximum number of units at graduation. I'm not completely sure, but I think they can just discount some of your AP credits if you're over the total unit limit so there's that protection too.
