PoliSci major question & AP score

Hi, I recently found out that I got a 5 on my U.S. Government AP test and I could skip PoliSci 1 for an upper division course...is this recommended? Or should I just stick with PoliSci 1?

Overall, i'm really interested in taking PoliSci 1 and 5

but for the major what other classes do I need? From what I understand, I need to fulfill:
- Poli Sci 3
- Two classes (either Poli Sci 1, 2, 4, 5)
- History course

Is this correct?

ur 5 shows that at least u know the stuff, so skip it. classes that u can skip with AP’s cover almost the same material, so it u take it, it’ll be like review.
then again, i may be wrong. looks kinda dangerous taking an upper div ur first semester…

Maybe take your other prereqs first and then decide on an upper div another semester after you’ve seen how classes go?

You’ll have trouble signing up for upper-division PS courses without being a major. That said, it’s doable. I’d recommend taking your other prereqs first. You still have to take the same number of classes in the major overall. If you’re not interested in American politics (i.e. you’re an IR or theory or comp person) you don’t have to take PS1 or an upper-division substitute.

PoliSci 1 is really equivalent to a high school civics class with a few additional nuances that you probably didn’t catch then. I’d skip it.

I’m taking Poli Sci 5.

new york is epic (i just had to say this)
