i think people lie on the "what are my chances" board, because they want people to say that they have a good shot, buying themselves peace of mind.

cant be 100%, ive never lied on CC, just posted my pathetic 2180 (definitely lower 50% on CC), and then my even more pathetic 2040 on my retake attempt.

There is no reason to lie on a board that in no way benifits you to lie on. That being stated I would say under 15% of the people on this board lie.
I would think people would be more inclined to tell their actual scores in the "What are my chances" threads to figure out if they should pay the money to apply to the school or not.

just my 2 cents.

5% or less lie

About 1% or so
Why in the world does anyone need to hide his real scores?

I think the only logical reason to lie (other than the ego boost and rspect gained on the forums) would be for somewhat paranoid people to protect their identities. I know I'm guilty of this a little bit too. I have this nagging fear that if I post the absolute truth, someone that I know in real life will happen upon CC and recognize me from what I post, which could be potentially embarrassing or even dangerous.

I think a lot of people tweaks their posts a tiny bit. I'm not talking about adding 400 points to an SAT score- I think that happens alot less frequently, given the generally high standards seen here on CC. But I do think people change their locations, or add a year to their age, or change the name of a specific award they won...all for the sake of security, which I don't have a problem with. In fact, I'd encourage it. We give out very important information on this site way too freely enough as it is, thinking it's secure simply because we're hiding behind usernames.

Why would it be embarrasing? no sarcasm - honest question

how could it be dangerous if someone you knew found you on CC?

puahha, i found someone I know.
