Ok so next fall I will be a freshman up at penn state university park. I've narrowed my living preference to either south or pollock. Both seem to have their advantages and disadvantages so I was wondering if anyone could persuade me either way? Thanks

South is mostly for Sororities and Honors college kids, and Pollock is more of the general population. If you’re not one of those two categories, you’ll probably feel weird in South.

Etuck: my roommate seems pretty set on wanting to live in south. How hard do you think it would be to live there as a freshman? Would living there drastically limit the opportunities to meet new people?

I mean, where you live really doesnt have an effect on your social life for the most part. You’ll likely meet your friends and stuff through whatever clubs you join, sports you play, etc. Not to say theres no freshman in South, there are, but Sororities are what makes up the bulk of the South dorms. Why do they want to live in South so bad?

Pollock is a very convenient location. I lived there for two years and enjoyed it. If you’re looking at South because it’s close to town, Pollock is pretty close, too. I avoided South for the reason Etuck mentions - too many sororities. I have nothing against sororities, but they’re involved in their own activities, and aren’t going to get to know the other people in their dorm as much as most others would.

Etuck: my roommates brother lived in south for his first two years so I think he’s into it cause he kinda already knows what to expect.
SansSerif: I think I’ll talk to my roommate and bring up those examples and see what he has to say.

Do either of you know if there are any major differences between the two such as room size, furniture size / differences, or anything more specific like that? Thanks I really appreciate it

Click on the varying housing locations and youll be able to see room layouts. They’re all more or less the same.
