In your school, is there a popular group? Mine doesn't really... Its 700 people a grade so there is no dominant group of people because you can't get to know everyone. Its pretty stratified, with honors class students filling up the top 33 percent. These people only mingle with each other because they only see other honors kids. There still are social groups though, a rough hierarchy in this group. But there is no "top". I think that its easy to fit in because there are so many people to fit in with. As a result there aren't many stereotypical "rude popular" people.

At my school, there is no “top group” either. Just different groups (only 100 kids per grade). There are only 3 groups in my grade :P

I’m not in any of them. My friends are all older than I am (except for 1), mostly Seniors and Juniors.

The idea of a “popular group” is a myth.

And if people speak of a popular group, it’s usually the group that has the most (drinking) parties, but not necessarily even the most popular.

Like I said, it’s a complete myth.

The groups at my school are pretty fluid. There is sort of a popular group, but they’re not really “dominant” in the school, and many people don’t really care about what they do. There aren’t really any cliques, either.

^^^Only three? Ours doesn’t have distinct groups. They sort of blend together. But there are at least 10 (in that top 35%, so like 250 people), and then permutations of those

^^thats pretty true

^^^I believe that the majority of “popular” students are those that host a multitude of parties as well.

Yeah, football really sucks and some cheerleaders are pregnant every year so I guess that leaves a gap. There’s no real popular group or even one that has the most parties. Like, parties are kinda just between friends of 4 to 40 or just everyone (like the after prom one). I don’t really think there’s even a hierarchy, groups are just kind of people that get along together best.

hahaha when i started HS, i asked myself that question as well…is there a “popular” group of kids? I don’t think there is…considering the how big my school is. There might be kids that are ‘cool’ (not hahha.) but i suppose they’re just well-known & well liked…? But i think there are certain groups of people that might.

I’m not ‘popular’ by any means lol…but i think i’m well-known since a lot of ppl know me (that i dont even sometimes which is kinda creepy…) but i guess that could just be because I don’t blend in very well with everyone else.

Haha yeah. That’s about 25 girls / group, which is about the size. In each group, there are little pairs and mini groups though.

Our graduating class only has about 200 students. There are cliques but I wouldn’t really say there is a specific “popular” group. Everyone just hangs out with there own friends and occasionally we all mingle but that’s it.

The supposed “popular group” at my high school is composed of a bunch of **es and ****s who think that everyone likes them and are extraordinarily condescending to anyone who they consider “below” them, but the truth is, everyone hates them and they all hate each other as well and are always caught up in some kind of stupid drama. I cannot wait to be rid of all of them in 10 days.

There’s a good mix of ******bags in my school, but I’m friends with some of the popular kids at school, but outside of school, I’m just there. :p

by popular you mean ‘well-known’?
Or popular in ‘American teen movies’ standard?

The popular people are all those in ASB (the student government). They all act nice to you, but they’re complete d*****bags underneath. If you ever so set a toe-nail into their drama circle, then you have no idea what you’re EFFing with.

They’re all so enveloped in drama that they do poor in academics and end up selfishly using all the smart people.
I laugh at the popular kids at our school. They’re only going to CSUs and community colleges because they were rejected everywhere (except one cool guy, who’s going to Yale).
It serves them right!

^ That’s really bitter John.

My friends consider me well-known since I join plenty activities, but I don’t think the popular kids are always enveloped in drama, at least not in my school.

Oh lol the drama thing in our school is really cutthroat. A single mistake, and the whole school gossips about it and talk crud behind your back.
Honestly, if there’s anything I’ve learned from my school, it’s that you should trust people (in my school at least) as far as your can throw them.
Backstabbing is unbelievably common…its just so scary. I still haven’t gotten used to it because I’m more of a gentle person…in Singapore, things are straightforward and to the point. If you don’t like someone, you don’t talk to them. Or you can settle the issue by talking things out.

But it doesn’t work like that in San Francisco…people are just too fake lol. And the ASB popular students are at the forefront of drama and power.

^Oh, so kinda like the popular kids in teen movies? :D

There’s no popular group, because everyone whose a friend of a person likes them unless they’re fake friends or whatever, and the rest of the grade just doesn’t really associate with them.
But the people who’d fit under the “jock” stereotype are these girls (single sex school btw), most of them do rowing/crew and I guess if people met them, they’d kind of feel the “popular group” vibe in them… though they are only liked by each other (however some of them are frequently backstabbed by their best friends).
Another group of girls are friends with these random guys that wear skinny jeans and skate shoes, most are attached to their technology (iPod [touch]/hair straightner/cellphone) and their appearance (mainly hair since our school has a uniform) makes them disliked by teachers.
My friends are naturally the smart muso type, because I know them from my classes or from my music groups. I have a few friends who are a year older than me who probably come under this group (with an exception).

wow, my school is divided into different groups based on Middle school association and neighborhoods. We’re all IB so honorswise, no.

Guess who is the outlier in terms of MS?
Also if you’re brown or white, you fit in easily.
Only black guy taking Upper level courses at my school.

We have two popular groups:
There’s the jock group with the kids leila and john (lol those are names :b ) were talking about and there’s the cooler group with the funny, intelligent kids that are cool.

My class has 120 students in it so it is quite possible to know everyone.
