I'm going to be honest here- AU's method of "rolling acceptances" kind of left a sour taste in my mouth (mind?) in terms of the school.

I totally agree... only notifying part of your applicant pool of their acceptances and letting the others wonder is just irresponsible. They could have at least sent out an email saying that they're releasing admissions decisions in batches starting on a certain date.

I'm starting to get worried that something went wrong with my application since their portal doesnt show application status and shows that I haven't turned in any financial aid forms (which I have). I know it says that for everyone, but why even make the portal if you aren't going to update it?

I didn't want to go there much before, but this really makes me wonder about the quality of the admissions staff.

It's one thing if you never set a date for response - okay, that's cool, whatever. But I know it's possible to send out all admit emails at the same time - U of Maryland did it and you know they had far more students.

I would have assumed it was based on stats, but my classmate who applied as well and got a 2300 on the SAT found out when I did and I only got a measley 2120.

This kind of pushed AU off my list.

I pushed them off of my list for the exact same reason. I did not ever receive an email but received an acceptance package today in the mail. The whole thing shows not only the irresponsibility of the university, but the lack of technological skills that they possess. I wonder how many students will deny thier acceptance offers because of how bad this looks for the University. Then again, the only people who are aware of the mishap are those here on CC. :)

I so agree! This is a major turnoff, I applied to Michigan and Indiana, both of which I got into and they are dealing with tons more applicants and everyone in my school found out literally within a few days of each other. Ithink this group at American is technologically challenged and they really have to consider revamping their system, its left a bad taste in my mouth that even if I am in, some of the joy will have been spoiled. Glad i have some company in the waiting game............

Same thing happened last year. My daughter never received e-mail or acceptance (or reject) letter. We started calling Admissions after realizing that e-mails had been sent mid March; they insisted we wait till April 1. April 1 came and went, called again they told my daughter they never received her application even though we had a post card dated Dec. 13th stating applicaiton was complete. Insisted we had to talk to regional rep and couldn't reach her. She was travelling. Finally reached her around April 10th, she apologized but never explained what had happened. Obviously they had misplaced her application somewhere along the line. Finally received the acceptance packet April 17th. Then we received two different financial aid packages. By this time, although American had offered her a full tuition scholarship, she had chosen to attend another (DC) college and we had sent the deposit. It was too bad because she would have had some great opportunities in the chemistry dept. at American. I agree with posters here. American needs to fix their admissions organization. It is not a good reflection on the college itself.

Have they done any rejections yet??? It doesn't have to be you, but do you know of anyone who has been rejected yet??

not that i have heard, DO THEY ACTUALLY email you with a rejection? Also this is pretaining to another school but does a grandfather who graduated from a certain school and got his masters in your expert opinions qualify as a legacy of some sort? I need an edge there!

Well i dont think other schools do a really good job either(cough umich). Anyway, when in doubt, call the admissions office and see what is going on.

rhombus:

The same thing happened to me, but I checked the day after and the FA document stuff had appeared. So it might be up soon!

The page doesn't show anything about $$ awarded, though :(

i did call and what i got was a pathetic all over the map awnser, he said our awnsers are going out by early april, then i said but i know some who have already found out then he said something pathetic like to a small random group we have sent out emails etc..........NO most other schools DO NOT operate this way, they have whats called a SYSTEM and when this is said and done i plan to write american and let them know how antiquated their system is! Its totally not fair to us waiting while so many others know...

Yeah, I totally hate this "batch" approach to admission notifications. It really is pure torture to read that some kids are receiving admissions e-mails, while I'm left checking my e-mail account every five minutes, in hopes of an e-mail of my own. It's a VERY unfair method to this process... hopefully with the help of all these e-mail and phone call complaints, it won't happen again next year.

totally agree, did any of you when checking notice a AU student number? I checkec on financial aid awards which showed nothing but in the top right corner, it said something like au studnet number then listed a number, does that mean anything at all?

rhombus - Same thing on mine, too. I e-mailed the admissions office and they said they had everything though.

The portal thing didn't work for me - it said that there seems to be something wrong with the information I submitted. I went back to make sure I got everything else correct and it still said it didn't work. :( I guess I didn't get in.

oneiros, what do you mean the portal didn't work? You can't access any info at all? Its likely something with the portal not you. Hang in there.

What I don't understand is... I received my acceptance e-mail and an invitation to a reception held in my area on April 3. If they tell some people by e-mail and wait to contact others by mail (let's say, close to or on April 1), how are people supposed to make plans to attend the reception? I agree...that's just plain irresponsible!

By the time some people find out they were accepted, they may have even missed the reception altogether!

Oneiros, the portal thing (attempting to set up an email w/the AU student number from the financial aid section, that is) didn't work for me as well.

This whole thing is just a CC speculation so let's not despair yet!

My AU ID doesn't work either:(, but I did email the dean of SPA!!! In which I asked alot of questions and then at the end my email I told him I am an applicant that was still waiting on an answer. He invited me to visit SPA on April 3rd, and that he would make provisions for me to sit in on classes!!! Also he said to make my travel plans and tell him as soon as possible what I have choosen to do?!!?!?!?! What does this mean?!?!!?!? Keep hope alive!!!! Also what are the stats for those who haven't been accepted yet, including outside of the classrom stuff?
