to all those that have Regular Decision Deadlines on that day, note that the post office will be closed!!

I was afraid of that. Is it possible to FedEx them instead? I don't think I'll have finished all my supplements by Saturday... :(

sorry, FedEx will be closed

UPS will be closed, except for sonicair (which is ridiculously expensive, like over 100 dollars...and its not always available)

DHL will be closed as well....their website has something about emergency pick-up but I don't think a college app will count as such

You have tomorrow and saturday morning (I guess if ur doing it online doesnt matter as much). Good Luck guys, gotta send mine in tomorrow.

Why not just apply online?

hmm...I don't really like applying online b/c of server crashes (during my morehead scholarship app) and because of formatting (sometimes they ask u to copy and paste essays and it gets cut off).

Also I like having a physical document in front of me and I dunno, I just like applying by paper better. :)

I know i posted this in penn's thread, but:

idk if you can use their self-help electronic postage machines(most postoffice have one in the lobby), which prints a sticky label with the date on it. MAYBE the date on the label IS the date stamp. but i'm not sure.
does anyone know what am talking about??? can confirm that i'm correct?

I prefer paper as well. So there's absolutely no way to get the January 1 postmark? Because that just sucks in an infinite number of ways. :(

edit: quickflood, that's interesting... does anyone know if that would work?

probably not, and yea it does suck. they should have known and made the deadline either the 30th of Dec. or the 2nd of Jan. More specific is always better

Some cities have a 24/7 post office - in Houston it is near the airport.

About FedEx being closed - What about the FedEx at Kinko's?

I dunno...Im assuming kinko's is open but fedex shipments will be not (not sure though)

also

I called the post office at the mall and they are open till 9....they said they work mall hours, that might help out if its the case in ur area.

I would check but usually it's the date it has to be postmarked by. So that would would mean in most places by 5:00 pm on Saturday.

Do post office open on Sundays?

rarely...I think the one at my mall is open though. call and make sure

Oh crap. My teacher evaluations aren't complete and there's nothing I could do about that...

I don't think colleges would be cruel enough to reject everything if one evaluation is missing?

I'm pretty sure if you have your application postmarked (or the 'submit' button pressed) by 11:59 on January 1, 2007, you are in good shape. The teacher recs, transcripts, etc. can come in the next few days. I have also seen that UVA moved their deadline to 1/2, presumably to accomodate the fact that 1/1 and 12/31 are postal holidays. Seems very thoughtful of UVA!

I believe you're right about hitting "submit" online but in order to make postmark meet the Jan 1, 2007 deadline, you have no choice to go by the post office hours. I have never heard of p.o. being open on Sunday. In our area if it's not in by 5:00 pm on any given day then it will be post marked the following business day. I would not put in the box either but go into the post office and have them hand stamp the date. Happens all the time with people paying taxes etc.

Colleges receive so much mail in the week(s) before and after the Jan. 1 deadline it's unlikely it will be noticed if your applications are mailed the day after the deadline. Student assistants generally open the mail and, as far as I know, aren't given specific instructions to toss anything postmarked after the deadline in the trash.

It's probably best (for your psyches) to get your application in before the deadline, but if you mail it on the 2nd no one will care or know. It's not like the admissions officers open the mail and note the tardiness on your application. Calm down, it won't make or break your decision.

and i found this

National Day of Observance -
As a mark of respect for former President Gerald Ford there will be no regular mail delivery or retail service on Jan 2nd, 2007.

http://www.usps.com/

It's right on the main site too. 3 days of no mail in a row! The 3rd will be a mess.
