that really sux,
but idk if you can use their self-help electronic postage machines(most postoffice have one in the lobby), which prints a sticky label with the date on it. MAYBE the date on the label IS the date stamp. but i'm not sure.
does anyone know what am talking about??? can confirm that i'm correct?

What is there to send by mail that is so important? Why not just submit the application online since that never closes? Unless you guys are talking about things like the optional arts supplement, if you apply online, there shouldn't be any thing that you should mail yourself ot Penn. If you apply by paper, that's a different understandable story.

btw called the post office at the mall and they are open till 9....they said they work mall hours, that might help out if its the case in ur area.

i heard for their personal online application you can include ur picture in additional info or something like that. im applying through common app, and I don't see anything about a picture there. Is the picture really even that important?

yes you can out your pic online also. The only reason you would need the post office is if you are sending in arts suplement (I did), music supplement, or a resume.
I don't think the picture is that important. They actually want it if you have met the adcom.

Double check that one. Then triple check it.

Sometimes the main Post Office in a big city is open on Federal holidays but I wouldn't count on it -- and it never seems to happen except in big cities.

Usually there's no P.O. open at all on a Sunday (which is what New Year's Eve is this year, obviously).

I remember one year when my mom wanted to get a tax deduction donation postmarked on New Year's Eve Day and the P.O. had closed early. She was -- excuse the terrible joke -- PO'd!

And kids at my school had real problems with the Common App server and some college websites last year when they tried to submit apps online on the night of the first, so you can't necessarily count on that.
