Prep Boarding Schools Still Open for Applications?

Are there Boarding Schools still open for applications now, and with a possibly generous financial aid? We got interested in this late and only applied to 3 schools.

And are there some of you whose kids got in at 9th Grade, but still transfer to another “better” boarding school at 10th grade? Thank you for your thoughts.

I think George School is coming up on the deadline but if you reached out to them, they might offer an "extension ". They tend to be very understanding.

There are definitely schools with rolling application. Pretty sure it’s a search screen you can set on Niche and/or SAO.

Also, if you’re a candidate that fills some niche you could apply and be accepted at almost any time. We know two kids who applied well after the deadline last year and are now at top schools.

If you’re interested in a school call and talk to an AO.

Transferring to a “better” school isnt a road id want to go down. Freshman year is HARD. Often a shock to the system for the typical “I was the smartest kid at my old school.” Fitting in applications to other schools would be really tough. Making a whole bunch of new friends but knowing you hope to leave? Bad idea for teenage mental health.

A friend of mine applied and was accepted (and attended) Masters in August.

Another friend of mine transferred from George School to Peddie after freshman year. I also have a classmate who transferred from Peddie to Lawrenceville after freshman year. It’s certainly possible, though not very common.

Most kids who transfer don’t do it to go to a “better” school but for reasons of fit. It may be related to a sport, a social situation, medical situation, etc.

And the school you want to apply to will want to understand this to make sure they are the right fit. With that said, I know kids who have transferred out of Andover, SPS, George, Peddie, Lville, Hun, Masters, etc. And I know kids who have transferred into many of those same schools.

Definitely don’t plan on doing this.
