"I also figured that it'd be pointless to apply if the general student body is as preppy as it's characterised to be because I definitely wouldn't fit into an atmosphere of preppiness and 'collar-popping.'"

Wow. How sad? One would choose not even to apply to a specific school based on the fact that the students are "preppy." First of all, the word preppy is very subjective. Second of all, you are implying that there is a correlation between the type of clothing that people wear and you fitting in with them. In my own experiences, I have found this not to be true. I think you are disregarding a confounding variable often refered to as personality. Most of the people that I have come across throughout my high school career fit in with others who they get along with and enjoy being around. I hope, for your own sake, that you would try to disregard such factors in deciding where to spend four years of your life. College is about not "fitting in" at first. Everyone is in the same boat.

"I hope y'all don't wear Prada, Coach, Versace, etc.
Good 'ol Columbia/Polo/regular button down +Jeans/slacks right, guys?"

Who cares if someone wears Prada, Coach, Versace? What if I said, "I hope y'all don't wear Columbia, Polo, or regular button downs and jeans." The fact that people get caught up in someone wearing expensive clothing only perpetuates the system itself.

I'm not preppy and I don't wear expensive clothing, but I also don't scoff at people who do. Does it matter that much to you?

yay upandcomer. by the way, preppy is like lacoste and lilly and trips to nantucket.

you are going to find all sorts of people at any school you go to. honestly, a lot of people who are really wealthy arent going to wear showy stuff because they dont need to prove anything. not all, but a lot. its really not that big of a thing, anyways. i would hope that people would judge on things besides clothes.

so dont worry about it. there will be every type of person at penn and you will find your niche. best of luck.

yes, nantucket and martha's vineyard. i swear, everyone in my school except me went to the bahamas/caribbean/barbados/tropical island, etc during winter break and came back with tans. all i did was physics howmework.

lol, aww im sorry. physics=yucky.

Amen to that Canadia, living in radnor, we get an equally fair share of the overly wealthy preppy types. They all went to such places as Turks and Caicos while I stayed home and actually at Harriton :) playing basketball. The extravegance is out of hand.

can i join the mainline non-vacationer club?
i spent my time on english projects

haha sure hyp; where are you on the main line?

beers, our schools are definitely crap looking. harriton's located in a nice area but the buildings themselves are sh itty. radnor is looks like a freaking university building. i was there for physics olympics and your school is absolutely sickening. it's ginormous and the library is so nice. i could go on but i'm sure you know all of this.

i think we should just start a mainline club... anyone here gonna be up at penn for MUN?

i would but i'm not going to college just quite yet although hopefully one day, that letter from penn will come in december...

I agree about Radnor's buildings and Radnor's everything! My sister goes there, but I still go to the hell hole known as Agnes Irwin... Full of the most people who have insane amounts of money and nothing better to do with it than to buy expensive things and then rub them in your face.

agnes irwin, baldwin, haverford are all the same. shipley and ea seem ok. doesn't seem as bad.

Ea is actually the worst of it. Even more so than my school. Just get ready and check out mtv.com's new true life special comming out called My Super Sweet 16. This kid has a million dollar budget for his party and it makes me want to throw up. But not without a little laughter at how petty and foolish it all is. Oh and he goes to EA by the way. What idiots.

are u serious? ea around here? b/c there are a lot of ea's around the country!

1 mil for a frickin party? donate it to some charity! better yet, donate it to penn so he can get in... :-)

i swear, there's nothing wrong with being preppy. the clothes look better and the people are the coolest!

believe me, i have no prob with it if the people aren't obnoxious or snobby and there are plenty of them here in my preppy area. but 1 mil for a party? come on, maybe for my wedding...

btw, the popped polo collars are great.
