I still haven’t heard and I just got my mail today and it wasn’t here… guys, should I call?

Did you check your status on Esther, Lifeofsolitude?

No. What is Esther?

I just looked at Esther. Can somebody send me a link so I could see if I made it? I’m quite confused :(

I believe that Esther is Rice’s online student information system: each Rice student (and applicant) has a user id and password that can be used to check a variety of things including the status of one’s application.

Omg. I don’t think my Rice prescreening was sent…uh-oh. No wonder why I haven’t gotten anything. AGGGGH!

Wow. I can’t believe I forgot to send my prescreening materials…well this just sucks.

Okay I don’t understand! I passed Eastman prescreening for voice. Spanishmezzo doesn’t pass Eastman but passes Rice. How come I passed Eastman but not Rice? Ugh This process is so annoying.

Anyway, it’s a yes from Eastman, USC, Oberlin and NEC. Now just waiting on Juilliard.

NYboundsoprano-Can you tell me how-email or snail mail- and when you heard from Eastman? Thanks.

Did anyone her back from carnegie mellon yet?

nyboundsoprano, there’s no logic in it, really. Two years ago my D passed pre-screen for Eastman but not others, got rejected from a few “safeties” and now attends Eastman on a generous talent scholarship. She loves it, btw, loves her voice teacher there, and says all the voice faculty is excellent. Good luck to all, you will land where you need to be! I do remember the anxiety, and the moments of serious doubt, i.e, “maybe I shouldn’t be a music major…”

It really will all work out! Hang in there!

Did NEC notify by email or snail mail?

@2collegewego - S received NEC pass via email. We think they are notifying by audition date. (notified last week for Feb 5th date).

nyboundsoprano: a question for you. When you log in to Esther (Rice’s online tracking system) and you go to the Requirements page, what does it say is the status of your application.

You passed pre-screens for many great schools and you will have wonderful choices. My Dad always reminds me that we all end up where we need to be for a reason. We may not understand it now, but in time we will. Hang in there.

Lifeofsolitude: How frustrating. I know you are kicking yourself but same advice as to nyboundsoprano. You are destined to go to the place you will end up for a reason. Try not to be too hard on yourself. This process is full of second guessing. It is making me crazy too. You also will get into a great place. You have passed pre-screens for great schools.

Anyone who did not pass Rice, I would really appreciate it if you checked Esther and let me know what is says as the status of your application. Thanks so much.

We have not heard back from Carnegie Mellon yet either.

Yeah it just sucks because I send everything in except my prescreening tape. I was so caught up in the other 10 schools I was applying to that I forgot to send this one in. Oh well :p

Thanks squiggles. All the percussion auditions are that weekend. We haven’t heard back but I guess notification may also vary by instrument.

10 schools? O.o I feel like I didn’t apply to enough. I applied to Eastman (denied), Indiana (accepted to Univ., had to use prescreening recording as final audition ): ), Rice (passed prescreening, top choice), U of Houston (have to use prescreening as final audition), and Belmont U. Ugghhhhh, I hope this all works out well. I am also second-guessing, doubting, and beating myself up over every little thing.

Lifeofsolitude - I wouldn’t give up so fast. I would call the admissions office and explain the situation to them. Ask them if they would be willing to give you a temporary extension. Nothing is set in stone, trust me.

My advice is that you just send them a prescreening CD now and then call/email them so if they agree, the ball will already be in motion. If they don’t agree, they will just chuck your CD upon arrival.

Papagena - The Esther status to my knowledge does not change at all. The school of music has to notify the admissions office for the whole university to cancel the application if your prescreening has been denied. THEN, your status will change. I am doubting that anybody’s status has changed since they finalized prescreens just before winter break, which means university admissions wouldn’t change anybodys status at least until after break. Just my best guess since nobody seems to be helping you out with a response.
