Anyone know what the essay prompts are?

You can find them on PSAOnline.

do i have to log in to do that? (I'm feeling lazy at the moment) :p

Yup, you have to log in. BTW, Goldfish, you said you got nominated with a 1510. Are you sure this is the score you got in with? No ACT? No math + CR new SAT? What state are you in?

West Virginia. No ACT. 2190 on new SAT (780 M, 750CR, 660 W). :(

btw, if you've seen the prompt, can you pleeeeease tell me what they say? I really don't feel like downloading them tonight.

You must have gotten in with your 780 M + 750 CR.

Describe any characteristics of your family or your community that have been important to your personal development.

Discuss some creative work that illustrates the way you see the world and the way you see yourself in the world. The work may be a scientific theory, novel, film, poem, song, or other art form.

What is the most significant contribution that you feel you have made to your communitys well-being or the well-being of an individual or individuals in your community? Why were you motivated to do this? What effect do you think it has had on that person or the community?

Describe a mistake you made or a challenge you faced. How did you respond to that mistake or challenge, and what did you learn from your experience?

And then the official "Candidate Essay:"
Topic: Please attach a photograph of something that or someone who has great significance to you. Explain that significance. Note: If you are visually impaired, you are not required to attach a photograph. Please write about something that or someone who has great significance to you.

It almost seems like they never end. I was only celebrating last weekend that I didn't have to write any more essays, but the celebration was short-lived. ;-). I really wish they would give word length suggestions.

WHAT? 5 essays...sweet Jesus. No wonder there are so few semifinalists...I bet half of the people don't even bother completing the application.

i swear..if they added some money to the award more people would actually fill out the application.
What really sucks is that these questions are all college app style, but they're slightly different from any of the essays i've already written so I have to rewrite everything! obnoxious I tell you!

and we've only got one month! AHH!!

thanks for posting that s'vrone

lol the official candidate essay is the same as the Stanford prompt. Lol

I completely agree with all of you! With all of the money the government has, you think they could fork over some to the Presidential Scholars. They're only some of the very best students in the entire country.

Goldfish

NOT FAIR! All of the prompts are similar to the college prompts I had, but just different enough that I have to write everything from scratch. Well, that's one down for you, lucky kid.

lol Svrone, and that describe a mistake essay kinda looks like one I had to write for Northwestern.

Btw, what's the word limit on these essays?

They don't state one. They just give you a half of a page of space to paste your essays for the first four, and I think a page for the last one. They say your font has to be at least 11 point.

Darn, what was the IL cutoff? I had a 2370...could it be that it was the December SAT?

The December SAT doesn't count. Only SATs or ACTs taken before the end of October do, I think. I'm sorry sran, otherwise you would almost certainly have made it.

half a page...oooh

For the 2006 award they count only M/V or ACT. Writing not cared about.

I'm one of the 4 from theoneo's school...and he knows who I am, but I don't know which of the four he is...hm.

How many would you say end up not filling out the app?

Not too many I guess.
