Presidential Scholar?

maybe that's all who actually apply

I’m estimate around ¾ of the people apply. It’s not like this is extremely hard for most of the applicants, because they’re all great students anyway.

after you qualify with your SAT, what are actual admissions based on?

grades?
essays?
extracurricular?

probably all three, if so, which one is the most important?

would i be auto-rejected because i only have a 3.6uw?

out of the people who apply, how many total do you think end up not getting disqualified on some technicality (there are a lot of them)...i'd estimate that those who got their apps in with no major flaws to eliminate them will qualify (you can never know though if you were disqualified or simply not selected)

I get the impression that the PS program is sketchy in their selection policies. I'm starting to regret having spent my time writing six essays just for their crappy, moneyless scholarship program.

everyone who was involved in helping me apply to this...my principal, counselor, teacher, parents etc. all thought the process was a major pain and regretted involvement...i know i will if i don't make semifinalist

yeah...when i submitted it, PSP said that they would check it against previously published stuff. i hope they notice when quotes are in " "

The PS people haven't responded to any of the three inquiries I've sent them over the past month. I think they're conspiring to disqualify people based on technicalities. Hobos. So much for "recognizing excellence" and setting up something "revolutionary."

Well, I guess that's just the government at it again.

I'm really kinda annoyed with PSP.

If it hadn't been for all that effort my teacher put into his reccomendation for me, I would've not finished my app. My gc and I have called them 3 times with questions, and each time I got a lame, cliched response that never really answered the question. And the technicalities- ugh. I couldn't believe the insane amount of dumb rules leading to disqualification. I'd be seriously angry if I found out I got dq-ed based on a silly error, after the all nighter I pulled finishing my essays....

And the character limit on the online application forms was frustrating for me too. Everytime I tried to list some award or leadership position, or explain something ambiguous, there wasn't enough room in the text box. Did anyone else have that problem?? My tip for anyone that gets nominated next year is to do the app on paper- much less hassle.

And the picture for the long essay- only 150kb?? The picture I took was 1000+kb with a high quality camera, and it took so much time to edit it down to the required size, and then it looked fuzzy and indistinct. They really should increase that size limit. I'd hate to be an evaluator sifting through apps and trying to figure out what in the world the pictures are supposed to be of.

lol, after all this work and frustration, I would be annoyed if i didn't make semi :)

If I didn't make semi, I'd send them a 5" by 7" photograph of my middle finger complete with an essay demonstrating style, depth and breadth of knowledge, and individuality explaining its significance to me.

yeah i had to crop mine down from like 450 something kb

i would feel real bad for my teacher if i didn't make it...he really really likes me and put in like two to three hours on my form, taking into account all the times he had to call them up for instructions etc.

kb? if my pic uploaded correctly, that's enough, right? I wasn't supposed to check the kb was I?

the picture should be fine if it uploaded

My son didn't continue the process. He said, "Mr. xxxxx has already written enough recommendations for me - he doesn't need to do another one. Besides, there's no way that I'm going to get chosen."

Good luck to all of you who put in the effort. It would be a tremendous honor for you if you are selected.
